Effect of trends on detrended fluctuation analysis.

TLDR
It is shown how to use DFA appropriately to minimize the effects of trends, how to recognize if a crossover indicates indeed a transition from one type to a different type of underlying correlation, or if the crossover is due to a trend without any transition in the dynamical properties of the noise.

Global financial crisis and weak-form efficiency of Islamic sectoral stock markets: An MF-DFA analysis

TL;DR: In this article, the weak-form efficiency of Islamic stock markets using 10 sectoral stock indices (basic materials, consumer services, consumer goods, energy, financials, health care, industrials, technology, telecommunication, and utilities) was estimated.

Hydrological effects of water reservoirs on hydrological processes in the East River (China) basin: complexity evaluations based on the multi-scale entropy analysis

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of water reservoirs on the river flow records based on long streamflow series covering January 1, 1954 and December 31, 2009 at four representative hydrological stations, i.e. the Longchuan, the Heyuan, Lingxia and Boluo stations, are evaluated.

New features of land and sea surface temperature anomalies

TL;DR: In this paper, the long-range power-law correlations were revealed within the time series of the LSST anomalies, for all time lags between 4 months and 39 years.

Evaluation of the temporal structure of postural sway fluctuations based on a comprehensive set of analysis tools

TL;DR: This work evaluates sway dynamics by means of COP excursions in a quiet standing task versus a dual-task condition in three different test times and finds higher sensitivity of the structural parameters to modulations of postural control strategies and partly an improved evaluation of sway dynamics in longer recordings.

Non-extensivity and long-range correlations in the earthquake activity at the West Corinth rift (Greece)

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the statistical properties of the earthquake activity in a highly seismic region, the West Corinth rift (Central Greece), by means of generalized statistical physics and showed that long-range correlations are also present in the earthquake activities.

Long-Term Storage Capacity of Reservoirs

TL;DR: In this paper, a solution of the problem of determining the reservoir storage required on a given stream, to guarantee a given draft, is presented, where a long-time record of annual total...

Mosaic organization of DNA nucleotides

TL;DR: This work analyzes two classes of controls consisting of patchy nucleotide sequences generated by different algorithms--one without and one with long-range power-law correlations, finding that both types of sequences are quantitatively distinguishable by an alternative fluctuation analysis method.

Quantification of scaling exponents and crossover phenomena in nonstationary heartbeat time series

TL;DR: A new method--detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA)--for quantifying this correlation property in non-stationary physiological time series is described and application of this technique shows evidence for a crossover phenomenon associated with a change in short and long-range scaling exponents.

Detecting long-range correlations with detrended fluctuation analysis

TL;DR: It is shown that deviations from scaling which appear at small time scales become stronger in higher orders of detrended fluctuation analysis, and a modified DFA method is suggested to remove them.

Estimators for long-range dependence: an empirical study

TL;DR: In this paper, various methods for estimating the self-similarity parameter and/or the intensity of long-range dependence in a time series are available. But some of these methods are more reliable than others.
