Effect of trends on detrended fluctuation analysis.

TLDR
It is shown how to use DFA appropriately to minimize the effects of trends, how to recognize if a crossover indicates indeed a transition from one type to a different type of underlying correlation, or if the crossover is due to a trend without any transition in the dynamical properties of the noise.

Poincar\'{e} parameters and principal component analysis of Heart rate variability of subjects with health disorder

TL;DR: In this paper, the auto-correlation of HR fluctuation exhibits highly correlated pattern for subjects with health disorder compared to that of a control subject, the analysis demonstrates that three groups are well separated in the domain of two significant principal components.

Comparing multifractality among Czech, Hungarian and Russian stock exchanges

TL;DR: This study shows that the Czech, Hungarian and Russian stock exchanges are neither efficient nor fractals, but they are multifractal markets.

Long-term memory dynamics of total ozone content

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors constructed a retrospective time-series of total ozone content at Arosa (46.47°N, 9.40°E) and Poluy River (66.1°N and 68.3°E), and applied the multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis applied to the mean yearly values of the reconstructed total ozone contents over both locations.

Determination of the dynamical behavior of rainfalls by using a multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the dynamical behavior of rainfalls in the complicated area of the Korean peninsula was analyzed using a multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis, and the authors were able to find forty high-ranked stations having no automatic weather system from the multifractral strength.

Study of the MEG background activity in Alzheimer's disease patients with scaling analysis methods

TL;DR: The usefulness of these scaling analysis methods to increase the insight into AD are shown, with accuracies of 83.33% with DFA and of 80% with BDMA reached.

Long-Term Storage Capacity of Reservoirs

TL;DR: In this paper, a solution of the problem of determining the reservoir storage required on a given stream, to guarantee a given draft, is presented, where a long-time record of annual total...

Mosaic organization of DNA nucleotides

TL;DR: This work analyzes two classes of controls consisting of patchy nucleotide sequences generated by different algorithms--one without and one with long-range power-law correlations, finding that both types of sequences are quantitatively distinguishable by an alternative fluctuation analysis method.

Quantification of scaling exponents and crossover phenomena in nonstationary heartbeat time series

TL;DR: A new method--detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA)--for quantifying this correlation property in non-stationary physiological time series is described and application of this technique shows evidence for a crossover phenomenon associated with a change in short and long-range scaling exponents.

Detecting long-range correlations with detrended fluctuation analysis

TL;DR: It is shown that deviations from scaling which appear at small time scales become stronger in higher orders of detrended fluctuation analysis, and a modified DFA method is suggested to remove them.

Estimators for long-range dependence: an empirical study

TL;DR: In this paper, various methods for estimating the self-similarity parameter and/or the intensity of long-range dependence in a time series are available. But some of these methods are more reliable than others.
