Effect of trends on detrended fluctuation analysis.

TLDR
It is shown how to use DFA appropriately to minimize the effects of trends, how to recognize if a crossover indicates indeed a transition from one type to a different type of underlying correlation, or if the crossover is due to a trend without any transition in the dynamical properties of the noise.

Statistical regularities of Carbon emission trading market: Evidence from European Union allowances

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the price fluctuations of European Union allowances (EUA) futures in European Climate Exchange (ECX) market from 2007 to 2011 and found that there are only short-range correlations in price changes (return), while long-range correlation in the absolute of price change (volatility).

Self-Similar Random Process and Chaotic Behavior In Serrated Flow of High Entropy Alloys.

TL;DR: The statistical and dynamic analyses of the serrated-flow behavior in the nanoindentation of a high-entropy alloy, Al0.5CoCrCuFeNi, at various holding times and temperatures are performed to reveal the hidden order associated with the seemingly-irregular intermittent flow.

Simulated shift work in rats perturbs multiscale regulation of locomotor activity

TL;DR: Activity fluctuations of rats in a simulated shift work protocol that was designed to force animals to be active during the habitual resting phase of the circadian/daily cycle found that these animals had gradually decreased mean activity level and reduced 24-h activity rhythm amplitude, indicating disturbed circadian and behavioural cycles.

Long-range correlation behaviors for the 0-cm average ground surface temperature and average air temperature over China

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed daily records including the 0-cm average ground surface temperature (AGST) and average air temperature (AAT) from 557 meteorological stations over China from 1951 to 2010 using detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) method.

Mosaic organization of DNA nucleotides

TL;DR: This work analyzes two classes of controls consisting of patchy nucleotide sequences generated by different algorithms--one without and one with long-range power-law correlations, finding that both types of sequences are quantitatively distinguishable by an alternative fluctuation analysis method.

Quantification of scaling exponents and crossover phenomena in nonstationary heartbeat time series

TL;DR: A new method--detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA)--for quantifying this correlation property in non-stationary physiological time series is described and application of this technique shows evidence for a crossover phenomenon associated with a change in short and long-range scaling exponents.

Detecting long-range correlations with detrended fluctuation analysis

TL;DR: It is shown that deviations from scaling which appear at small time scales become stronger in higher orders of detrended fluctuation analysis, and a modified DFA method is suggested to remove them.

Estimators for long-range dependence: an empirical study

TL;DR: In this paper, various methods for estimating the self-similarity parameter and/or the intensity of long-range dependence in a time series are available. But some of these methods are more reliable than others.
