Effect of trends on detrended fluctuation analysis.

TLDR
It is shown how to use DFA appropriately to minimize the effects of trends, how to recognize if a crossover indicates indeed a transition from one type to a different type of underlying correlation, or if the crossover is due to a trend without any transition in the dynamical properties of the noise.

Multifractal analysis of measure representation of flood/drought grade series in the Yangtze Delta, China, during the past millennium and their fractal model simulation

TL;DR: Based on reconstructed flood/drought grade series, IFS (iterazed function systems) and RIFS[(recurrent) iterated function systems] models were used to reconstruct their measure representations as discussed by the authors.

Fluctuations in Wikipedia access-rate and edit-event data

TL;DR: To characterize the fluctuation behavior, detrended fluctuation analysis is applied, finding that most article access-rate time series are characterized by strong long-term correlations with fluctuation exponents α≈0.9, and the results indicate significant differences in the dynamics of information upload and access.

Correlation between cortical and subcortical neural dynamics on multiple time scales in Parkinson’s disease

TL;DR: A relation between neural dynamics in the most dominant rhythms in the cortex and basal ganglia in PD, extending across multiple time scales is suggested, which might contribute to the understanding of cortical-subcortical neural coupling in PD.

Extended detrended fluctuation analysis of electroencephalograms signals during sleep and the opening of the blood-brain barrier.

TL;DR: This work analyzes rat electroencephalograms to identify specific changes in the slow-wave dynamics of brain electrical activity associated with two different conditions, such as the opening of the blood-brain barrier and sleep, which are both characterized by the activation of the brain drainage function.

Detrended fluctuation analysis of laser Doppler flowmetry time series: the effect of extrinsic and intrinsic factors on the fractal scaling of microvascular blood flow.

TL;DR: Inhibition of a local vasodilator mechanism not only decreased the scaling exponent of the local region but also eliminated the effect of respiratory coupling on fractal scaling.

Long-Term Storage Capacity of Reservoirs

TL;DR: In this paper, a solution of the problem of determining the reservoir storage required on a given stream, to guarantee a given draft, is presented, where a long-time record of annual total...

Mosaic organization of DNA nucleotides

TL;DR: This work analyzes two classes of controls consisting of patchy nucleotide sequences generated by different algorithms--one without and one with long-range power-law correlations, finding that both types of sequences are quantitatively distinguishable by an alternative fluctuation analysis method.

Quantification of scaling exponents and crossover phenomena in nonstationary heartbeat time series

TL;DR: A new method--detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA)--for quantifying this correlation property in non-stationary physiological time series is described and application of this technique shows evidence for a crossover phenomenon associated with a change in short and long-range scaling exponents.

Detecting long-range correlations with detrended fluctuation analysis

TL;DR: It is shown that deviations from scaling which appear at small time scales become stronger in higher orders of detrended fluctuation analysis, and a modified DFA method is suggested to remove them.

Estimators for long-range dependence: an empirical study

TL;DR: In this paper, various methods for estimating the self-similarity parameter and/or the intensity of long-range dependence in a time series are available. But some of these methods are more reliable than others.
