Effect of vitamin C on ambulatory blood pressure and plasma lipids in older persons
TLDR
In older adults high intakes of ascorbic acid have modest effects on lowering high systolic blood pressure, which could contribute to the reported association between higher vitamin C intake and lower risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.Abstract:
ObjectivesTo determine the effect of oral vitamin C supplements on ambulatory blood pressure and plasma lipids.DesignA 6-month double-blind randomized placebo-controlled cross-over study with a 1-week washout between cross-over periods.MethodsVitamin C 500 mg daily or matching placebo was given to 4read more

TL;DR: Dose concentration studies of vitamin C in healthy people showed a sigmoidal relationship between oral dose and plasma and tissue vitamin C concentrations, so optimal dosing is critical to intervention studies using vitamin C.

Reactive oxygen species in vascular biology: implications in hypertension
TL;DR: The present chapter discusses the role of oxidative stress in vascular damage in hypertension and suggests therapies targeted against reactive oxygen intermediates, by decreasing generation of ROS and/or by increasing availability of antioxidants, may be useful in minimizing vascular injury and hypertensive end organ damage.

Vitamin C and risk of death from stroke and coronary heart disease in cohort of elderly people.
TL;DR: In elderly people vitamin C concentration, whether measured by dietary intake or plasma concentration of ascorbic acid, is strongly related to subsequent risk of death from stroke but not from coronary heart disease.

Vitamin C and cardiovascular disease: a review.
TL;DR: Analysis of the literature regarding groups at high risk for coronary heart disease reveals that men, the elderly, smokers, diabetics, hypertensives and perhaps oral estrogen-containing contraceptive users have lowered plasma vitamin C levels.
