Effect size estimates: Current use, calculations, and interpretation.

TLDR
A straightforward guide to understanding, selecting, calculating, and interpreting effect sizes for many types of data and to methods for calculating effect size confidence intervals and power analysis is provided.
Abstract
The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (American Psychological Association, 2001, American Psychological Association, 2010) calls for the reporting of effect sizes and their confidence intervals. Estimates of effect size are useful for determining the practical or theoretical importance of an effect, the relative contributions of factors, and the power of an analysis. We surveyed articles published in 2009 and 2010 in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, noting the statistical analyses reported and the associated reporting of effect size estimates. Effect sizes were reported for fewer than half of the analyses; no article reported a confidence interval for an effect size. The most often reported analysis was analysis of variance, and almost half of these reports were not accompanied by effect sizes. Partial η2 was the most commonly reported effect size estimate for analysis of variance. For t tests, 2/3 of the articles did not report an associated effect size estimate; Cohen's d was the most often reported. We provide a straightforward guide to understanding, selecting, calculating, and interpreting effect sizes for many types of data and to methods for calculating effect size confidence intervals and power analysis.

Integrating culturally informed approaches into physiotherapy assessment and treatment of chronic pain: a pilot randomised controlled trial

TL;DR: Aligning treatment with the beliefs and values of culturally and linguistically diverse communities enhances patient engagement with physiotherapy, and these results support the feasibility of a larger, multisite trial to determine if improved engagement with culturally adapted physiotherapy translates to improved clinical outcomes.

Maps, vibration or gaze? Comparison of novel navigation assistance in indoor and outdoor environments

TL;DR: A novel interaction concept named ‘VibroGaze’ is introduced that combines the benefits of vibrotactile and gaze-based interaction for pedestrian navigation and shows that the proposed navigation concept can effectively assist the users during navigation.

Breast Biopsy: The Effects of Hypnosis and Music.

TL;DR: The results showed that, before breast biopsy, the music group presented less stress and anxiety, whereas the hypnosis with music group showed reduced stress, anxiety, and depression and increased optimism and general well-being.

Riesgo suicida y su relación con la inteligencia emocional y la autoestima en estudiantes universitarios

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found positive statistically significant correlations among suicidal risk, emotional attention and self-deprecation; and negative correlations (p> 0.001) among suicidal risks, emotional intelligence, emotional clarity, emotional regulation, self-esteem and selfconfidence.

Assessing the impact of adjusting for maturity in weight status classification in a cross-sectional sample of UK children.

TL;DR: Incorporating assessments of maturational status into weight classification resulted in significant changes to the classification of early-maturing adolescents, exploring the implications for objective health risk and well-being.

Applied multiple regression/correlation analysis for the behavioral sciences

TL;DR: In this article, the Mathematical Basis for Multiple Regression/Correlation and Identification of the Inverse Matrix Elements is presented. But it does not address the problem of missing data.
