TLDR
Efficient shoot regeneration of Vanda coerulea was achieved using thin shoot tip sections and thidiazuron and the highest percentage of protocorm-like bodies (95%) survived and ultimately produced healthy shoots with 2 – 3 leaves when subjected to a 4 week thid Diazuron treatment.
Abstract
Efficient shoot regeneration of Vanda coerulea was achieved using thin shoot tip sections and thidiazuron Protocorm-like bodies or proliferating shoot buds was observed when thin shoot tip sections were cultured on Vacin and Went's (VW) (1949) basal medium supplemented with 1135 µM thidiazuron The highest percentage of protocorm-like bodies (95%) survived and ultimately produced healthy shoots with 2 – 3 leaves when subjected to a 4 week thidiazuron treatment A culture period longer than 8 weeks with thidiazuron resulted in the formation of fasciated or distorted shoots Shoots produced roots when cultured on half strength VW basal medium supplemented with 1142 µM IAA The well rooted shoots were transferred to pots containing charcoal chips, coconut husk and broken tiles (2:2:1) and a 98% survival rate was achieved

Cytokinin activity of N-phenyl-N′-1, 2,3-thiadiazol-5-ylurea (thidiazuron)

TL;DR: The cytokinin activity of Thidiazuron was similar to that of the highly active N -phenyl- N ′-4-pyridylurea derivatives and to the most active cytokinins of the adenine type.

Cytokinin activity induced by thidiazuron.

TL;DR: Analysis of soybean callus extracts strongly suggests that thidiazuron treatment creates an accumulation and/or synthesis of purine cytokinins, able to induce the growth, expansion and regeneration, mentioned above.

Thidiazuron induces high-frequency shoot regeneration in intact seedlings of pea (Pisum sativum), chickpea (Cicer arietinum) and lentil (Lens culinaris)

TL;DR: Of various cytokinins or compounds with cytokinin-like activity tested for inducing shoot formation in pea seeds cultures,TDZ was found to be most effective and inductive capability of TDZ was then tested in several other genotypes of Pisum sativum and two other large-seeded grain legumes.
