TLDR
It is concluded that field trials of Endod in schistosomiasis control are now justifiable and environmental fate and additional local ecotoxicity tests are recommended for nontarget aquatic organisms present in the endemic situations of field trials.

Recent trends in research into African medicinal plants

TL;DR: The isolation and characterisation of natural products from African plants without biological testing has yielded several compounds of novel structure, which constitutes the majority of all the recent publications on African medicinal plants.

Implementation of Human Schistosomiasis Control: Challenges and Prospects

TL;DR: It will be vital for Ministries of Health and Education to budget for the control of diseases of poverty in addition to school health, and to utilise funds from a range of sources, such as, government funds, pooled donor contributions, or bilateral and international agencies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Toxicity of Euphorbia milii latex and niclosamide to snails and nontarget aquatic species.

TL;DR: E. milii latex, as compared with the reference molluscicide niclosamide, presents a higher degree of selectivity toward snails which are intermediate hosts of Schistosoma trematodes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tetrapleura Tetraptera: Molluscicidal Activity and Chemical Constituents

TL;DR: All the compounds isolated either from the fruits or other parts were found to exhibit strong molluscicidal properties against the schistosomiasis-transmitting snails Biomphalaria glabrata.

Delayed Contact Hypersensitivity In the Guinea Pig

TL;DR: Results indicate that use of the closed patch on the guinea pig results in a much more sensitive tool which could be of value not only for the routine detection of potential sensitizers, but could serve as the ideal model system for the investigation of delayed contact hypersensitivity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sperm shape abnormality and urine mutagenicity in mice treated with niclosamide.

TL;DR: The results of this study suggest that the increase in abnormal sperm depends on the systemic presence of non-conjugated niclosamide metabolites.

New Saponins from Phytolacca dodecandra l'HERIT

TL;DR: In this paper, three bidesmosidic saponins (1, 3, and 4) have been isolated from the methanolic extract of the berries of Phytolacca dodecandra l'HERIT (Phytolaccaceae) by a combination of rotation locular counter-current chromatography and column chromatography on reversed phase (RP-8) with MeOH/H2O.

Mutagenicity of antiamebic and anthelmintic drugs in the Salmonella typhimurium microsomal test system

TL;DR: 4 amebicides and 6 anthelmintics tested for mutagenicity in the Salmonella typhimurium microsomal test system induced frameshift and base-pair substitution mutations with or without metabolic activation, and urine of mice treated with dehydroemetine or pyrvinium pamoate showed no mutagenic activity.

Further Saponins from Phytolacca dodecandra L′HERIT

TL;DR: In this paper, three new bidesmosidic saponins 1−3 have been isolated from the berries of Phytolacca dodecandra L′HERIT (Phytolaccae) and the structures have been established by spectroscopic (1H-NMR, 13C-NMRI, FAB-MS, DCI-MS and GC/MS) and chemical methods (acid, basic, and enzymatic hydrolysis).
