The prevalence of hepatitis δ virus (HDV) was evaluated in 1027 HBsAg positive people living in five provinces, two municipalities and four autonomous regions of China. Seventeen people had antibodies to HDV (anti-HD — 13 of 454 asymptomatic carriers of HBsAg, two of 151 patients with chronic persistent hepatitis and two of 59 patients with chronic active hepatitis). All of those who were anti-HD lived in the autonomous regions of Inner Mongolia, Tibet, and Xinjiang.read more

Estimating the Global Prevalence, Disease Progression, and Clinical Outcome of Hepatitis Delta Virus Infection.

TL;DR: It is suggested that HDV poses a heavy global burden with rapid progression to severe liver diseases, urging effective strategies for screening, prevention, and treatment.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors used a rapid point-of-care test and an ELISA to retrospectively test for antibodies against the Hepatitis Delta antigen (anti-HDV-Ab) in 4103 HBsAg-positive and 1661 anti-HCV-positive sera from China and Germany.

The absence of hepatitis B virus DNA in hepatitis B e antigen positive sera from chronic hepatitis B surface antigen carriers in China.
TL;DR: There was considerable discordance with HBV DNA not being detectable in 10 out of 13 patients who were hepatitis B e antigen positive, and neither hepatitis D (delta) infection nor the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) could be implicated.

TL;DR: Biochemical and electron microscopic data indicate that the human hepatitis δ viral agent contains a covalently closed circular and single-stranded RNA genome that has certain similarities with viroid-like agents from plants.

The hepatitis delta (delta) virus possesses a circular rna
TL;DR: Evidence based on electron microscopy and electrophoretic behaviour that HDV contains a single stranded circular RNA molecule is presented, which is the first animal virus identified with a circular RNA genome.

Transmission of the hepatitis b virus-associated delta antigen to chimpanzees
TL;DR: Delta appears to be a marker of a transmissible pathogenic agent, either an HBV variant or another agent that requires the helper functions of HBV, that is defective and interferes with HBV replication.

Detection of Additional Antigenic Determinants of Hepatitis B Antigen
TL;DR: Preliminary data suggest w is more common that r on HB Ag in the United States, but r is most common in Thailand, and further study after absorbing the antisersa with heterologous antigens indicated that the reference antisera were distinguishing two additional antigenic determinants, designated w and r.
