Tsunami Runup and Inundation in Tonga from the January 2022 Eruption of Hunga Volcano

TL;DR: In the Kingdom of Tonga, the Hunga volcano experienced an 11-h long violent eruption which generated a significant near-field tsunami as discussed by the authors , reaching a peak height of 19 m in western Tongatapu, 20 m on south-eastern Nomuka Iki island, and 20m on southern Tofua, located approximately 65 km S and E and 90 km N from Hunga.
Journal ArticleDOI

Numerical simulations of water waves generated by subaerial granular and solid-block landslides: Validation, comparison, and predictive equations

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors compare the maximum initial wave amplitude and slope angle for both solid-block and granular landslides and propose equations for predicting the maximum wave amplitudes.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new dual earthquake and submarine landslide source model for the 28 September 2018 Palu (Sulawesi), Indonesia tsunami

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors proposed a dual source model including a submarine landslide, which is based on the results of a marine bathymetric survey, which identified evidence for submarine landslides within the Palu Bay.

The 2022 Hunga-Tonga megatsunami: Near-field simulation of a once-in-a-century event

TL;DR: A tsunami simulation of the Tongan Archipelago calibrated by field observations, drone, and satellite data is presented in this paper . But the authors focus on the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai (HTHH) volcanic eruption in January 2022, which generated catastrophic tsunami and contends for the largest natural explosion in more than a century.

The use of fast Fourier transform for the estimation of power spectra: A method based on time averaging over short, modified periodograms

TL;DR: In this article, the use of the fast Fourier transform in power spectrum analysis is described, and the method involves sectioning the record and averaging modified periodograms of the sections.
