Journal ArticleDOI

Regular Physical Activity and Vascular Aging.

TL;DR: Exercise training of various durations and intensities appears to prevent and restore the age-related impairment of endothelial function, likely through the restoration of NO availability, reduction in oxidative stress, and turnover of the apoptotic process in the endothelium, thus minimizing vascular inflammation and decreasing the formation of atherosclerotic plaques.
Journal ArticleDOI

Coronary artery calcification and cardiovascular risk: the role of RANKL/OPG signalling.

TL;DR: In this paper, the potential clinical use of both RANKL/OPG and coronary calcium score (CAC) to assess cardiovascular vulnerability has been discussed, and emerging evidence indicates that atherosclerotic plaque calcification is positively correlated with vulnerability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Early detection of coronary artery disease by 64-slice multidetector computed tomography in asymptomatic hypertensive high-risk patients

TL;DR: MDCT is an excellent noninvasive technique for early identification of significant coronary stenoses in high risk asymptomatic hypertensive patients and might provide unique information for the screening of this broad population of patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

CEPHEUS SA: a South African survey on the undertreatment of hypercholesterolaemia.

TL;DR: Being male, older than 40 years, falling into the lower-risk categories, compliance with the medication regimen, and patient knowledge that the LDL-C goal had been reached, were associated with the highest probability of attaining cholesterol-lowering goals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Secondary Prevention of Acute Coronary Syndrome. Socio-economic and Lifestyle Determinants: A Literature Review

TL;DR: There is vast evidence that secondary prevention of cardiovascular events cannot be accomplished simply through medical treatment, but it requires a multifaceted approach incorporating lifestyle modifications, too, so public health policy endeavours should be directed towards multifocal strategies.

Cardiovascular Disease in Sub-Saharan Africa

TL;DR: The focus of the present series of articles on Africa in this issue of Circulation on sub-Saharan Africa is linguistically and culturally different from Northern Africa, which is also the putative cradle of humankind.
