TLDR
Current research trends towards understanding and implementing these advanced functions in network management platforms to effect automatic trouble ticket generation, fault diagnostics, and the correlation of multiple views network problems and behavior are described.
Abstract
Network management in large heterogeneous communication environments requires the incorporation of more advanced tools than are currently available, especially in the area of fault management. By providing an informational infrastructure for documenting network behavior and maintenance activities, TTSs (trouble ticket systems) have provided some relief for the fault management problem. Researchers have recognized TTSs as a means for realizing more advanced functions in network management platforms to effect automatic trouble ticket generation, fault diagnostics, and the correlation of multiple views network problems and behavior. The authors describe current research trends towards understanding and implementing these advanced functions in a TTS framework. >

Anomaly detection in IP networks

TL;DR: A statistical signal processing technique based on abrupt change detection is described that is effective at detecting several network anomalies and has great potential to enhance the field, and thereby improve the reliability of IP networks.

Distributed Systems for System Architects

TL;DR: The distributed systems architect assembles pieces of hardware that are at least as large as a computer or a network router, and assigns pieces of software that are self-contained - such as Java applets - to those hardware components.

Method and apparatus for resolving faults in communications networks

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose an improved method and apparatus of resolving faults in a communications network using a trouble ticket data structure to describe communications network faults, where completed trouble tickets are stored in a library and when an outstanding communication network fault is received, the system uses at least one determinator to correlate the outstanding communications network fault to data fields in the set of data fields of the data structure.

Outline of a New Approach to the Analysis of Complex Systems and Decision Processes

TL;DR: By relying on the use of linguistic variables and fuzzy algorithms, the approach provides an approximate and yet effective means of describing the behavior of systems which are too complex or too ill-defined to admit of precise mathematical analysis.

Fuzzy logic in control systems: fuzzy logic controller. II

TL;DR: The basic aspects of the FLC (fuzzy logic controller) decision-making logic are examined and several issues, including the definitions of a fuzzy implication, compositional operators, the interpretations of the sentence connectives 'and' and 'also', and fuzzy inference mechanisms, are investigated.

Fuzzy logic in control systems : fuzzy logic controller. Part II

TL;DR: The fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based on fuzzy logic provides a means of converting a linguistic control strategy based on expert knowledge into an automatic control strategy.

Improving human decision making through case-based decision aiding

TL;DR: In this paper, a case from CHEF (Hammond 1986, 1989) where a recipe for beef and broccoli, a stir-fried dish, is indexed in several ways: (1) the recipe is prepared by stir-frying, the ingredients are of type souffle, the vegetables are crisp, and the vegetables have a lot of liquid.
