TLDR
In this article, the optical Kerr effect of liquid nitrobenzene and chlorobenzene was probed with 65 fs optical pulses at 633 nm, and three non-instantaneous relaxation components were observed in each liquid, including an ultrafast relaxation with an 80 fs lifetime and the previously observed orientational relaxations.About:

Coherent Two-Dimensional Optical Spectroscopy
TL;DR: Although the optical analogs of 2D NMR do not provide an atomic resolution structure of complex molecules, optical domain multi-dimensional spectroscopy has certain advantages because of the dramatic gain in time resolution possible and the ability to directly observe and quantify the couplings between quantum states involved in molecular dynamical processes.

Two-dimensional femtosecond vibrational spectroscopy of liquids
Yoshitaka Tanimura,Shaul Mukamel +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the nonlinear optical response of liquids subjected to a series of femtosecond laser pulses is calculated using a multimode harmonic model for nuclear motions, with nonlinear coupling to the radiation field through the coordinate dependence of the electronic polarizability.

Femtosecond optical Kerr studies on the origin of the nonlinear responses in simple liquids
TL;DR: In this article, the time-resolved optical Kerr responses of several simple molecular liquids are probed with 65-fs laser pulses and four dynamically distinct responses associated with the nonlinear susceptibility are observed in every liquid that possesses a permanent anisotropic polarizability.

Femtosecond solvation dynamics in acetonitrile: Observation of the inertial contribution to the solvent response
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors characterized the solvation dynamics of acetonitrile by a time resolved fluorescence shift measurement determined via the fluorescence upconversion technique, and showed that the fast initial part of the solvent response arises from small amplitude inertial rotational motion of molecules in the first solvation shell.

Off-resonant transient birefringence in liquids
TL;DR: In this article, off-resonant transient birefringence measurements are analyzed using a reduced equation of motion for the ground state density matrix, which is expanded using an effective Hamiltonian.

TL;DR: In this article, an ultrafast 0.24 ps decay was observed in liquid CS2 with 150 femtosecond laser pulses, and subsequenyly observed to decay, and possible origins of the ultrafast response were discussed with specific reference to a novel coherence effect.
