Journal ArticleDOI

Dielectric control of counterion-induced single-chain folding transition of DNA.

TL;DR: It is found that the critical concentration of spermine necessary to induce the single-chain folding transition increases exponentially as the dielectric constant increases, corresponding to 87-88% of the DNA charge neutralized at the onset of the transition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nanoscopy of bacterial cells immobilized by holographic optical tweezers

TL;DR: It is shown that immobilizing non-adherent cells by optical tweezers is sufficient to achieve optical resolution well below the diffraction limit using localization microscopy, which opens up new opportunities to super-resolve the nanoscale organization of chromosomal DNA in individual bacterial cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anomalous field-induced particle orientation in dilute mixtures of charged rod-like and spherical colloids

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that diluted rod-like particles suspended in a sea of smaller spherical particles having similar charge align perpendicular to the external electric field, contrary to the notion that charged rods in dilute suspensions always align parallel to external electric fields.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polarization-independent orbital angular momentum generator based on a chiral fiber grating

TL;DR: Helical phases were successfully excited in this device for the arbitrary polarization states of the input light, and the resulting OAM modes could be produced with a desired polarization state.

Holographic microfabrication and characterization system for soft matter and biological systems

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and system for micromanipulation of objects of any shape is described, which creates various forms of holographic optical traps for a variety of commercial purposes.

The charge of glass and silica surfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method of calculating the electric charge density of glass and silica surfaces in contact with aqueous electrolytes for two cases of practical relevance that are not amenable to standard techniques: surfaces of low specific area at low ionic strength and surfaces interacting strongly with another anionic surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assembly of Colloidal Crystals at Electrode Interfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, a theory for a new type of colloid behavior whereby particles deposited on a surface by electrophoresis are manipulated to form two-dimensional crystals is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Two-dimensional aggregation and crystallization of a colloidal suspension of latex spheres

TL;DR: In this paper, Browniennes en suspension dans l'eau are used for cristallisation bidimensionnelle de spheres de latex calibrees, with dimension fractale mesuree D = 1,74±0,05.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effective pseudo-potentials of hydrodynamic origin

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that low Reynolds number fluid flows can cause suspended particles to respond as though they were in an equilibrium system with an effective potential, which is a general result from the fact that different methods of moving particles in viscous fluids give rise to very different long-range flows.
