TLDR
In this paper, the effect of elliptical motion trajectory on the aerodynamic characteristics and propulsive performance of a flapping airfoil is evaluated, where a periodic horizontal motion (forward/backward) is combined with vertical motion (upward/downward) of the airframe to introduce a new kinematic parameter.

Lift performance enhancement for flapping airfoils by considering surging motion

TL;DR: In this paper , a surging motion is added to an airfoil performing pitching-plunging combined motion to figure out how it influences the lift performance and flow pattern of flapping airfoils.

Energy extraction performance of tandem flapping foil undergoing elliptical motion trajectory

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated the energy extraction performance of tandem flapping by varying the flapping trajectory and position between the foils at a Reynolds number of 1173, and found that with an elliptical motion trajectory pattern and an inter-foil spacing of 1.5 cm-2cm, the energy efficiency was improved.

Numerical Investigation of Elliptical Motion on Propulsion Performance of a Flapping Hydrofoil

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed an elliptical motion on a flapping hydrofoil for propulsion instead of the traditional two degrees of freedom motion, plunging/pitching motion.

Performance of Semi-Active Flapping Hydrofoil with Arc Trajectory

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated the working characteristics and hydrodynamic performance of a semi-active flapping foil with a circular arc track and showed that the maximum angle of attack is the key factor affecting the efficiency of this flapping-foil propulsion system.

A calculation procedure for heat, mass and momentum transfer in three-dimensional parabolic flows

TL;DR: In this article, a general, numerical, marching procedure is presented for the calculation of the transport processes in three-dimensional flows characterised by the presence of one coordinate in which physical influences are exerted in only one direction.

Wing rotation and the aerodynamic basis of insect flight.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the enhanced aerodynamic performance of insects results from an interaction of three distinct yet interactive mechanisms: delayed stall, rotational circulation, and wake capture.

Wing rotation and the aerodynamic basis of insect flight

Oscillating foils of high propulsive efficiency

TL;DR: In this article, the phase angle between transverse oscillation and angular motion is the critical parameter affecting the interaction of leading-edge and trailing-edge vorticity, as well as the efficiency of propulsion.
