General conservation equations for multi-phase systems: 1. Averaging procedure

TLDR
In this article, a systematic procedure for averaging continuum equations over representative regions of multiphase systems is developed, where Mass and areal averages as well as volume averages are defined to ensure that the averaged quantities are physically meaningful.

A review of techniques, advances and outstanding issues in numerical modelling for rock mechanics and rock engineering

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the techniques, advances, problems and likely future developments in numerical modelling for rock mechanics and discuss the value that is obtained from the modelling, especially the enhanced understanding of those mechanisms initiated by engineering perturbations.

Effects of spatial variability and scale with implications to hydrologic modeling

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the existence of a Representative Elementary Area (REA) in the context of hydrologic modeling at the catchment scale and found that it is strongly influenced by the topography.

Computational homogenization analysis in finite plasticity Simulation of texture development in polycrystalline materials

TL;DR: In this paper, the deformation of a micro-structure is coupled with the local deformation at a typical material point of the macro-continuum by three alternative constraints of the microscopic fluctuation field.

Mechanics and thermodynamics of multiphase flow in porous media including interphase boundaries

TL;DR: In this paper, a macroscopic thermodynamic theory was developed to describe two-phase flow in porous media, where the authors developed a constitutive theory resulting in balance equations and thermodynamics appropriate for modelling multiphase flow.
Journal ArticleDOI

Theories of immiscible and structured mixtures

TL;DR: A survey of theories of immiscible mixtures can be found in this article, where it is emphasized that the immiscibility of such mixtures has important consequences concerning the forms of the constitutive equations, and that it can also result in the mixtures exhibiting microstructural effects.

Nonlinear theory of simple micro-elastic solids-i

TL;DR: In this paper, the formulation of the basic field equations, boundary conditions and constitutive equations of simple micro-elastic solids is discussed. And explicit expressions of constitutive expressions of several simple micro elastic solids are given and applied to some special problems.

Simultaneous Heat, Mass, and Momentum Transfer in Porous Media: A Theory of Drying

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a general theory that provides a starting point for the construction of special theories so that various drying processes can be studied analytically without recourse to an enormous computational effort.
