TL;DR: This review covers recent results from multidisciplinary research on sainfoin (Onobrychis Mill.) and provides an overview of current developments with several other tanniniferous forages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia Scop.): renewed interest as a forage legume for western Canada
TL;DR: Sainfoin is a perennial forage legume that has received renewed interest in western Canada because of its desirable forage characteristics and is suitable for monoculture or binary mixtures with either grasses or alfalfa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of novel SSR markers in diverse sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) germplasm
TL;DR: The SSR markers characterized and tested in this study provide a valuable tool to detect polymorphisms in sainfoin for future genetic studies and breeding programs and it is shown that these markers can be used to separate sain foin individuals based on their origin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence and consequences of self-fertilisation in the predominantly outbreeding forage legume Onobrychis viciifolia
TL;DR: Although sainfoin is predominantly outcrossing, self-fertilisation can occur to a high degree under conditions of limited pollen availability and these results will influence future breeding efforts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic diversity and relationships within and among Onobrychis species using molecular markers
TL;DR: The results indicate that the section Lophobrychis has a comparatively derived organization that can be attributed to the differences in their taxonomic delimitation, and suggest that some species in the genus Onobychis might have been outcrossing with reproductive ability with O. Viciifolia.

Arlequin (version 3.0): An integrated software package for population genetics data analysis
TL;DR: Arlequin ver 3.0 as discussed by the authors is a software package integrating several basic and advanced methods for population genetics data analysis, like the computation of standard genetic diversity indices, the estimation of allele and haplotype frequencies, tests of departure from linkage equilibrium, departure from selective neutrality and demographic equilibrium, estimation or parameters from past population expansions, and thorough analyses of population subdivision under the AMOVA framework.

The Detection of Disease Clustering and a Generalized Regression Approach
TL;DR: The technic to be given below for imparting statistical validity to the procedures already in vogue can be viewed as a generalized form of regression with possible useful application to problems arising in quite different contexts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimation of average heterozygosity and genetic distance from a small number of individuals
TL;DR: It is shown that the number of individuals to be used for estimating average heterozygosity can be very small if a large number of loci are studied and the average heter homozygosity is low.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid isolation of high molecular weight plant DNA
TL;DR: A method is presented for the rapid isolation of high molecular weight plant DNA which is free of contaminants which interfere with complete digestion by restriction endonucleases, and which yields total cellular DNA.
