TLDR
This is a survey on graph visualization and navigation techniques, as used in information visualization, which approaches the results of traditional graph drawing from a different perspective.
Abstract
This is a survey on graph visualization and navigation techniques, as used in information visualization. Graphs appear in numerous applications such as Web browsing, state-transition diagrams, and data structures. The ability to visualize and to navigate in these potentially large, abstract graphs is often a crucial part of an application. Information visualization has specific requirements, which means that this survey approaches the results of traditional graph drawing from a different perspective.

3D visualization and analysis of ecological networks on WWW

TL;DR: 3D visualizations of food webs are described that address difficulties with cylindrical node placement, minimal edge-crossing and link length, hierarchical node aggregation, and color-schemes representing different characteristics of network nodes and links to simplify the complexity, illuminate insightful information and provide an effective analysis on top of ecological Semantic Web.

Go visual for CASE tools borland together controlcenter and gentleware poseidon: System demonstration

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an implementation of UML class diagrams within well-known modelling tools, such as Graph Drawer, Graph Viewer, and Graph Layout Toolkit, to display class hierarchies (generalizations), associations, aggregations, and compositions.

Interactive Visualization Tool for Analysis of Large Image Databases

TL;DR: The author describes a new interactive multiple views interface for an Adaptive Image Retrieval System (AIRS), in which each view illustrates the relationships between the images from the collection by using visual attributes (colors, shapes, proximities).

Tool demonstration: effective runtime exploration of the inter-procedural control flow in Java applications

TL;DR: A new profiler that dynamically explores the inter-procedural control flow of Java applications while they are executing is presented, which visualizes the complete Calling Context Tree with various dynamic metrics, and enables efficient navigation in large CCTs comprising up to several millions of nodes.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Efficient Q-matrix Computation for the Visualization of Complex Networks

TL;DR: This work describes an efficient near-linear time algorithm for computing the Q-matrix of an undirected network graph and presents experimental results showing that application networks with millions of edges and vertices can be processed in seconds on desktop computers.

Graph drawing by force-directed placement

TL;DR: A modification of the spring‐embedder model of Eades for drawing undirected graphs with straight edges is presented, developed in analogy to forces in natural systems, for a simple, elegant, conceptually‐intuitive, and efficient algorithm.

Information Visualization: Perception for Design

TL;DR: The art and science of why the authors see objects the way they do are explored, and the author presents the key principles at work for a wide range of applications--resulting in visualization of improved clarity, utility, and persuasiveness.

Generalized fisheye views

TL;DR: This paper explores fisheye views presenting, in turn, naturalistic studies, a general formalism, a specific instantiation, a resulting computer program, example displays and an evaluation.
