Hazardous organic chemicals in rubber recycled tire playgrounds and pavers.
Maria Llompart,Lucia Sanchez-Prado,J. Pablo Lamas,Carmen Garcia-Jares,Enrique Roca,Thierry Dagnac +5 more
TLDR
The study evidences the high content of toxic chemicals in these recycled materials, especially those targeting play areas and other facilities for children, and should be a matter of regulatory concern.About:

The pollution conveyed by urban runoff: A review of sources.
TL;DR: The review showed that the atmospheric deposition, vehicular transportation-related activities and metallic building envelopes continue to be among the major pollution sources, which have been studied in a far greater detail than other sources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemical composition and ecotoxicity of plastic and car tire rubber leachates to aquatic organisms
TL;DR: Evidence is provided of the relationship between chemical composition and toxicity of plastic/rubber leachates, which ranged from slightly to highly toxic to mussels and algae, highlighting the need for a better understanding of the overall impact of plastic-associated chemicals on aquatic ecosystems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Waste tyre valorization by catalytic pyrolysis – A review
Miriam Arabiourrutia,Gartzen Lopez,Gartzen Lopez,Maite Artetxe,Jon Alvarez,Javier Bilbao,Martin Olazar +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the main advances in waste tyre valorization by catalytic pyrolysis are analyzed, and a wide range of catalysts have been proposed in the literature, with zeolites being the most commonly used.

Benzotriazoles and benzothiazoles in human urine from several countries: A perspective on occurrence, biotransformation, and human exposure
TL;DR: Based on the concentrations and detection rates of several BTR and BTH derivatives in urine, possible metabolic transformation pathways of these compounds were presented and human exposure doses calculated.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Review of Environmental Occurrence, Fate, Exposure, and Toxicity of Benzothiazoles
TL;DR: Of these, 2-thiocyanomethylthio-benzothiazole (2-SCNMeS-BTH) has been shown to be the most toxic, creating several transformation products.

Occurrence and effects of tire wear particles in the environment--a critical review and an initial risk assessment.
Anna Wik,Göran Dave +1 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that management should be directed towards development and production of more environmentally friendly tires and improved road runoff treatment and the upper ranges for PEC/PNEC ratios in water and sediment were >1, meaning that tire wear particles present potential risks for aquatic organisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Treatment of organic waste using thermal plasma pyrolysis technology
Hongyi Huang,L. Tang +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the principles of thermal plasma pyrolysis processes are outlined and a discussion of recent research activities about organic waste treatment using thermal plasminization technology is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of substances released from crumb rubber material used on artificial turf fields.
TL;DR: A decrease of volatile compounds was noted in the headspace over CRM samples from 2-years-old fields when compared with the virgin CRM used at installation, and an outdoor experiment under natural weathering conditions showed a significant reduction of out-gassing organic compounds from the CRM.
