TLDR
Patients with sclerosing pancreatitis have high serum IgG4 concentrations, providing a useful means of distinguishing this disorder from other diseases of the pancreas or biliary tract.Abstract:
Background Sclerosing pancreatitis is a unique form of pancreatitis that is characterized by irregular narrowing of the main pancreatic duct, lymphoplasmacytic inflammation of the pancreas, and hypergammaglobulinemia and that responds to glucocorticoid treatment. Preliminary studies suggested that serum IgG4 concentrations are elevated in this disease but not in other diseases of the pancreas or biliary tract. Methods We measured serum IgG4 concentrations using single radial immunodiffusion and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 20 patients with sclerosing pancreatitis, 20 age- and sex-matched normal subjects, and 154 patients with pancreatic cancer, ordinary chronic pancreatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, or Sjogren's syndrome. Serum concentrations of immune complexes and the IgG4 subclass of immune complexes were determined by means of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with monoclonal rheumatoid factor. Results The median serum IgG4 concentration in the patients ...read more

Orbital necrobiotic xanthogranuloma associated with systemic IgG4 disease.
TL;DR: IgG4-positive plasma cells are relatively rare in nonsclerosing orbital inflammatory lesions, however, systemic disease IgG4 can be associated with necrobiotic xanthogranuloma of the orbit.

TL;DR: The recent International Consensus Diagnostic Criteria for autoimmune pancreatitis and its Japanese amendment developed by the Japanese Pancreas Society (JPS 2011) may have overcome the drawbacks of earlier criteria and achieved a higher diagnostic ability for AIP.

TL;DR: A primary risk factor for pancreatic stone formation in AIP was narrowing of both Wirsung's and Santorini’s ducts, which most presumably led to pancreatic juice stasis and stone development.

The meaning and use of the area under a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.
TL;DR: A representation and interpretation of the area under a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve obtained by the "rating" method, or by mathematical predictions based on patient characteristics, is presented and it is shown that in such a setting the area represents the probability that a randomly chosen diseased subject is (correctly) rated or ranked with greater suspicion than a random chosen non-diseased subject.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported a case of chronic pancreatitis in which an autoimmune mechanism is involved in the etiology and summarized the cases of pancreatitis suspected of being caused by an auto-antibody-positive mechanism in the Japanese and English literature.
