TLDR
Patients with sclerosing pancreatitis have high serum IgG4 concentrations, providing a useful means of distinguishing this disorder from other diseases of the pancreas or biliary tract.
Abstract
Background Sclerosing pancreatitis is a unique form of pancreatitis that is characterized by irregular narrowing of the main pancreatic duct, lymphoplasmacytic inflammation of the pancreas, and hypergammaglobulinemia and that responds to glucocorticoid treatment. Preliminary studies suggested that serum IgG4 concentrations are elevated in this disease but not in other diseases of the pancreas or biliary tract. Methods We measured serum IgG4 concentrations using single radial immunodiffusion and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 20 patients with sclerosing pancreatitis, 20 age- and sex-matched normal subjects, and 154 patients with pancreatic cancer, ordinary chronic pancreatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, or Sjogren's syndrome. Serum concentrations of immune complexes and the IgG4 subclass of immune complexes were determined by means of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with monoclonal rheumatoid factor. Results The median serum IgG4 concentration in the patients ...

IgG4-related Autoimmune Prostatitis: Two Cases with or without Autoimmune Pancreatitis

TL;DR: The findings observed in these cases suggest that the pathological mechanism for prostatitis is similar to the mechanism previously implicated in AIP, namely IgG4-related autoimmune prost atitis.

Inflammatory pseudotumors of the central nervous system.

TL;DR: The detection of significant number of IgG4-positive plasma cells in 3 inflammatory pseudotumors suggests that a considerable proportion of intracranial inflammatory pseudOTumor may belong to the IgG 4-related subgroup, and a trial of corticosteroid after histological confirmation may be valid to avoid unnecessary risk-taking neurosurgical procedures or in cases with incomplete tumor removal.

Lymphoplasmacytic sclerosing pancreatitis (autoimmune pancreatitis): evaluation with multidetector CT.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors search for potential findings suggestive of lymphoplasmacytic sclerosing pancreatitis when typical findings of a pancreatic or biliary neoplasm are not found.

Diagnostic approach to patients with acute idiopathic and recurrent pancreatitis, what should be done?

TL;DR: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is proposed to be a safe first line test of choice in the majority of patients and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) can be a suitable alternative from a diagnostic standpoint although may be widely available.

The meaning and use of the area under a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.

James A. Hanley, +1 more
- 01 Apr 1982 -
TL;DR: A representation and interpretation of the area under a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve obtained by the "rating" method, or by mathematical predictions based on patient characteristics, is presented and it is shown that in such a setting the area represents the probability that a randomly chosen diseased subject is (correctly) rated or ranked with greater suspicion than a random chosen non-diseased subject.

Chronic pancreatitis caused by an autoimmune abnormality : proposal of the concept of autoimmune pancreatitis

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported a case of chronic pancreatitis in which an autoimmune mechanism is involved in the etiology and summarized the cases of pancreatitis suspected of being caused by an auto-antibody-positive mechanism in the Japanese and English literature.
