TLDR
Patients with sclerosing pancreatitis have high serum IgG4 concentrations, providing a useful means of distinguishing this disorder from other diseases of the pancreas or biliary tract.
Abstract
Background Sclerosing pancreatitis is a unique form of pancreatitis that is characterized by irregular narrowing of the main pancreatic duct, lymphoplasmacytic inflammation of the pancreas, and hypergammaglobulinemia and that responds to glucocorticoid treatment. Preliminary studies suggested that serum IgG4 concentrations are elevated in this disease but not in other diseases of the pancreas or biliary tract. Methods We measured serum IgG4 concentrations using single radial immunodiffusion and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 20 patients with sclerosing pancreatitis, 20 age- and sex-matched normal subjects, and 154 patients with pancreatic cancer, ordinary chronic pancreatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, or Sjogren's syndrome. Serum concentrations of immune complexes and the IgG4 subclass of immune complexes were determined by means of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with monoclonal rheumatoid factor. Results The median serum IgG4 concentration in the patients ...

Characteristics of immunoglobulin G4-related aortitis/periaortitis and periarteritis on fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography co-registered with contrast-enhanced computed tomography

TL;DR: The entire aorta and major branches can be involved with more than 2-fold higher FDG uptake than the venous background pool, and with wall thickening, according to the image characteristics of IgG4-aortitis.

IgG4 cholangiopathy – Current concept, diagnosis, and pathogenesis

TL;DR: Although the precise pathogenic mechanism remains unclear, the development of IgG4-cholangiopathy may involve: susceptible genetic factors, abnormal innate and acquired immunity, decreased naïve regulatory T cells, and specific B cell responses.

Pulmonary involvement of autoimmune pancreatitis.

TL;DR: The pulmonary involvement of autoimmune pancreatitis was analysed to clarify the clinicopathological features of pulmonary lesions in comparison with pulmonary sarcoidosis, and a wide variety of systemic lesions have been seen in patients with autoimmune Pancreatitis.

The meaning and use of the area under a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.

James A. Hanley, +1 more
- 01 Apr 1982 -
TL;DR: A representation and interpretation of the area under a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve obtained by the "rating" method, or by mathematical predictions based on patient characteristics, is presented and it is shown that in such a setting the area represents the probability that a randomly chosen diseased subject is (correctly) rated or ranked with greater suspicion than a random chosen non-diseased subject.

Chronic pancreatitis caused by an autoimmune abnormality : proposal of the concept of autoimmune pancreatitis

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported a case of chronic pancreatitis in which an autoimmune mechanism is involved in the etiology and summarized the cases of pancreatitis suspected of being caused by an auto-antibody-positive mechanism in the Japanese and English literature.
