TLDR
In this paper, a study of 200 elderly drivers, 100 cyclists and 55 pedestrian samples were interviewed using structured questionnaire and samples were weighted to remove bias using Delphi method according to gender and age, which revealed the following statistically significant effect on elderly: (i) 60+ drivers faces decrease in physical strength such as steering, braking, looking aside/backside.

Population ageing and rural road accidents: Analysis of accident severity in traffic crashes with older pedestrians on Spanish crosstown roads

TL;DR: In this article, a logistic regression model was used to analyze the conditional probability of a fatal outcome in the case of a crash resulting in at least one severe injury on Spanish crosstown roads involving one vehicle and one elderly pedestrian.

Neighbourhood walkability: Elderly's priorities

TL;DR: In this paper, a survey was developed in the urban area of Catania (Italy) to understand which aspects and measures the elderly consider more important in order to encourage and improve neighbourhood walkability, considering the influence of age-related declines and experience as road users.
Journal ArticleDOI

Why Are Older Adults More at Risk as Pedestrians? A Systematic Review.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore factors that could explain why older adults are more at risk at the roadside, and explore factors to explain why walking can result in an increased risk of injury as a pedestrian.

Comfortable and maximum walking speed of adults aged 20—79 years: reference values and determinants

TL;DR: Gait speed can be expected to be reduced in individuals of greater age and of lesser height and lower extremity muscle strength and normative values should give clinicians a reference against which patient performance can be compared in a variety of settings.

Age, skill, and hazard perception in driving.

TL;DR: It is suggested that driving experience improves drivers' awareness of potential hazards and guides drivers' eye movements to locations that might embed potential risks.

Age, Skill and Hazard Perception in Driving

TL;DR: This article found that experienced drivers learn to avoid hazards to which inexperienced drivers must respond, resulting in a more focused, goal-directed visual search and a higher sensitivity to potential hazards, and observed six hazard perception movies (four movies included one planned hazardous event and two movies served as control).
Journal ArticleDOI

Factors affecting the severity of motor vehicle traffic crashes involving elderly drivers in Ontario.

TL;DR: To reduce the severity of crashes involving elderly drivers, strategies could target specific factors such as head-on collisions, single-vehicle collisions, and traffic controls at intersections, which are significantly related to the increased risk of fatal-injury in crashes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Visual risk factors for driving difficulty among older drivers

TL;DR: The results show a pattern of difficulty in high-risk driving situations among those with decreased visual acuity and contrast sensitivity, even after adjustments for age, gender, weekly mileage, and cognitive impairment.
