Impact sensitivity and the maximum heat of detonation.
Peter Politzer,Jane S. Murray +1 more
TLDR
It is demonstrated that a large heat of detonation is undesirable from the standpoint of the impact sensitivity of an explosive and also unnecessary from the standpoints of its detonation velocity and detonation pressure.Abstract:
We demonstrate that a large heat of detonation is undesirable from the standpoint of the impact sensitivity of an explosive and also unnecessary from the standpoints of its detonation velocity and detonation pressure. High values of the latter properties can be achieved even with a moderate heat of detonation, and this in turn enhances the likelihood of relatively low sensitivity.read more

High Performance, Low Sensitivity: Conflicting or Compatible?
Peter Politzer,Jane S. Murray +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, general guidelines and specific molecular/crystalline features for promoting a high level of detonation performance in conjunction with low sensitivity are proposed; a key point is that a large detonation heat release should be avoided; it is undesirable with respect to sensitivity and it is not required in terms of performance.

Taming of 3,4-Di(nitramino)furazan.
TL;DR: To ensure the practical applications of 5, rather than preparing the salts of 1 through acid-base reactions, an alternative route through the nitration of N-ethoxycarbonyl-protected 3,4-diaminofurazan and aqueous alkaline workup was developed.

Review of the molecular and crystal correlations on sensitivities of energetic materials.
Gang Li,Chaoyang Zhang +1 more
TL;DR: More attention should be paid to the sensitivity correlations on the inherent structures of EMs, molecule and crystal packing, because they can be readily dealt by molecular simulations nowadays, facilitating to reveal the physical nature of sensitivity.

π–π Stacking Contributing to the Low or Reduced Impact Sensitivity of Energetic Materials
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe π stacking, usually together with the aid of hydrogen bonding (HB), as a main characteristic of low impact, sensitive, highly energetic materials (LSHEMs), which are highly desired for app...
