Incident tree model and incident tree analysis method for quantified risk assessment: An in-depth accident study in traffic operation

TLDR
The case study of vehicle-leaving-roadway accident with ITA illustrates that the proposed methodology may not only capture the essential information transformations of accident that occur in system operation, but also determine the various combinations of hardware faults, software failures and human errors that could result in the occurrence of specified undesired incident at the system level even accident.

A safety-based approaching behavioural model with various driving characteristics

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed a safety-related approaching behavior model by considering the variability of following vehicle's speed to the leading vehicle's one and the relative distances among vehicles.

Reliability Analysis of Pedestrian Safety Crossing in Urban Traffic Environment

TL;DR: In this paper, pedestrian safety crossing behavior at signalized crosswalks in an urban traffic environment based on human reliability analysis is described, and pedestrians' waiting durations are modelled by a non-parametric and two parametric reliability models that recognize the effects of covariates.

A review of models relevant to road safety

TL;DR: None of systems theory, safety management systems, the risk management approach, or safety culture was commonly or thoroughly applied to road safety, and it is concluded that these approaches have the potential to reduce road trauma.

Fault tree analysis combined with quantitative analysis for high-speed railway accidents

TL;DR: By establishing a fault tree logic diagram based on a high-speed railway accident, an in-depth fault tree analysis combined with quantitative analysis is given to present a more comprehensive view of the accident.
Journal ArticleDOI

Driver Cognitive Distraction Detection Using Driving Performance Measures

TL;DR: Characteristic parameters could be directly extracted from Controller Area Network-(CAN-)Bus data, without depending on other sensors, which improves real-time and robustness performance.

A new accident model for engineering safer systems

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a new accident model based on basic systems theory concepts, which provides a theoretical foundation for the introduction of unique new types of accident analysis, hazard analysis, accident prevention strategies including new approaches to designing for safety, risk assessment techniques, and approaches to design performance monitoring and safety metrics.

Errors and violations on the roads: a real distinction?

TL;DR: Women were significantly more prone to harmless lapses than men, consistent with the view that errors and violations are indeed mediated by different psychological mechanisms.

Probabilistic Risk Analysis: Foundations and Methods

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the fundamental notion of uncertainty, its relationship with probability, and the limits to the quantification of uncertainty and the difficulties of choosing metrics to quantify risk.
