TLDR
The comparison of two treatments generally falls into one of the following two categories: (a) a number of replications for each of the two treatments, which are unpaired, or (b) we may have a series of paired comparisons, some of which may be positive and some negative as mentioned in this paper.Abstract:
The comparison of two treatments generally falls into one of the following two categories: (a) we may have a number of replications for each of the two treatments, which are unpaired, or (b) we may have a number of paired comparisons leading to a series of differences, some of which may be positive and some negative. The appropriate methods for testing the significance of the differences of the means in these two cases are described in most of the textbooks on statistical methods.read more

Uncertainty analysis of statistically downscaled temperature and precipitation regimes in Northern Canada.
TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of the multiple regression-based statistical downscaling model in reproducing the observed daily minimum/maximum temperature, and precipitation for a reference period (1961-1990) is evaluated using climate predictors derived from NCEP reanalysis data and those simulated by two coupled GCMs (the Canadian CGCM2 and the British HadCM3).

Leaf physiological responses to extreme droughts in Mediterranean Quercus ilex forest
TL;DR: Changes in the relationship between photosynthetic parameters and water stress that are not currently included in drought parameterizations for modelling applications are revealed.

Development of visual category selectivity in ventral visual cortex does not require visual experience
TL;DR: It is shown that for the penultimate visual-processing region, ventral-temporal cortex (VTC), visual experience is not the origin of its fundamental organizational property, category selectivity, and that the overall category-selective map in extrastriate cortex develops independently from visual experience.

A chess rating system for evolutionary algorithms: A new method for the comparison and ranking of evolutionary algorithms
TL;DR: The CRS4EAs was empirically compared to NHST within a computational experiment conducted on 16 evolutionary algorithms and a benchmark suite of 20 numerical minimisation problems, and the analysis of the results shows that the CRS3EAs is comparable with NHST but may also have many additional benefits.

Video pornography detection through deep learning techniques and motion information
Mauricio Perez,Sandra Avila,Daniel Moreira,Daniel Moraes,Vanessa Testoni,Eduardo Valle,Siome Goldenstein,Anderson Rocha +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, optical flow and MPEG motion vectors are combined for combining static and dynamic motion information for pornography detection, achieving a classification accuracy of 97.9% and an error reduction of 64.4% on a dataset of 800 challenging test cases, respectively.

The Use of Ranks to Avoid the Assumption of Normality Implicit in the Analysis of Variance
TL;DR: The use of ranks to avoid the assumption of normality implicit in the analysis of variance has been studied in this article, where the use of rank to avoid normality is discussed.
