Intensity clamping of a femtosecond laser pulse in condensed matter

TLDR
In this paper, the supercontinuum spectrum of an intense femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser pulse propagating in condensed optical media (water, chloroform and glass), at various input laser energies, below and above the threshold for filamentation of the laser pulse was measured.

The propagation of powerful femtosecond laser pulses in opticalmedia: physics, applications, and new challenges

TL;DR: In this paper, a femtosecond laser pulse propagates in an optical medium, self-focusing occurs, and the most powerful part of the pulse self focuses first during its propagation.

Self-transformation of a powerful femtosecond laser pulse into a white-light laser pulse in bulk optical media (or supercontinuum generation)

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the high spatio-temporal localization of the light field in the filament, which enables the supercontinuum generation, is sustained due to the dynamic transformation of light field on the whole transverse scale of the beam, including its edges.

Observation of Self-Phase Modulation and Small-Scale Filaments in Crystals and Glasses

TL;DR: In this paper, small-scale filaments were observed in calcite, quartz, sodium chloride, and several glasses under picosecond pulse excitation, and the physical mechanism responsible for these processes is the change in refractive index resulting from electronic distortion.
