TLDR
In this paper, the mass and momentum transport of liquid films in parallel two-phase flow may be dominated by form drag forces exerted on the interfacial waves rather than shear forces.

CHF mechanism in flow boiling from a short heated wall—II. Theoretical CHF model

TL;DR: In this article, a theoretical CHF model is presented which is based upon the flow visualization of the wavy liquid-vapor interface near the heated surface as reported in Part I of this study.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of heater length and orientation on the trigger mechanism for near-saturated flow boiling critical heat flux. I: Photographic study and statistical characterization of the near-wall interfacial features

TL;DR: In this article, the trigger mechanism for critical heat flux (CHF) on 10-, 30-and 110mm long heaters which were mounted along one wall of a rectangular channel was explored.

Effects of heater length and orientation on the trigger mechanism for near-saturated flow boiling critical heat flux—II. Critical heat flux model

TL;DR: In this article, a critical heat flux (CHF) model is presented that accounts for both heater length and orientation effects, and the model is verified with FC-72 data obtained for 10-, 30-and 110mm long heaters that were flush-mounted in a 10-mm × 5mm channel and orientations including vertical upflow, 45-degree inclined flow, and horizontal flow, with liquid flowing above the heaters.

Investigation of flow boiling in large micro-channel heat exchangers in a refrigeration loop for space applications

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the two-phase heat transfer characteristics of two large micro-channel heat exchangers that serve as evaporators in the vapor compression loop using R134a as refrigerant and found that low qualities are associated with slug flow and dominated by nucleate boiling, and high qualities with annular flow and convective boiling.
Journal ArticleDOI

A theoretical model for flow boiling CHF from short concave heaters

TL;DR: In this paper, high-speed video imaging and photomicrography were employed to capture the trigger mechanism for CHF in a concave and a curved heater, respectively.

Influence of the amplitude of a solid wavy wall on a turbulent flow. Part 1. Non-separated flows

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the shear-stress variation along and the velocity profiles above a solid wavy wall bounding a turbulent flow for three waves with height-to-length ratios of 2a/λ = 0·0312 and 0·05.
