TLDR
In this paper, the authors compare sandstone compositions by grouping diverse grain types into a few operational categories having broad genetic significance and displaying compositional fields associated with different provenances on standard triangular diagrams.Abstract:
Detrital modes of sandstone suites primarily reflect the different tectonic settings of provenance terranes, although various other sedimentological factors also influence sandstone compositions. Comparisons of sandstone compositions are aided by grouping diverse grain types into a few operational categories having broad genetic significance. Compositional fields associated with different provenances can then be displayed on standard triangular diagrams.read more

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors classify orogens into retreating and advancing types, based on their kinematic framework and resulting geological character, including the supra-subduction zone forearc, magmatic arc and back-arc components.

TL;DR: Arsenic in the groundwater of Bangladesh is a serious natural calamity and a public health hazard as discussed by the authors, and most groundwater from the shallow alluvial aquifers (<150 m, particularly in the Holocene plai...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss three approaches that have been used to constrain the time of collision between India and Asia, including the cessation of marine facies, the first arrival of Asian detritus on the Indian plate, and the determination of the relative positions of India andAsia through time.

Continental stretching: An explanation of the Post-Mid-Cretaceous subsidence of the central North Sea Basin
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the thermal maturity and hydrocarbon potential of certain sedimentary horizons in the northern section of the Central Graben and found that most of this subsidence results from the thermal relaxation of the lithosphere which was thinned during a Middle Jurassic to mid-Cretaceous stretching of the crust.

Plate tectonics and sandstone compositions
TL;DR: The relationship between provenance and basin is important for hydrocarbon exploration because sand frameworks of contrasting detrital compositions respond differently to diagenesis, and thus display different trends of porosity reduction with depth of burial as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: The Gazzi-Dickinson point counting method as mentioned in this paper assigns sand-sized crystals and grains within larger fragments to the category of the crystal or grain, rather than to the larger fragment.

Interpreting detrital modes of graywacke and arkose
TL;DR: In this paper, the determination of detrital modes in graywackes and arkoses, here grouped as subquartzose sandstones, requires special attention to the identification of detribal grain types, as defined operationally.
