TLDR
In this paper, the biological processes that take place in the soil and their importance to soil fertility, plant growth, and environmental quality are investigated from both descriptive and functional viewpoints, including microbial ecology, the carbon and nitrogen cycles, mineral transformation, and ecological interrelationships.Abstract:
Characterizes soil microflora from descriptive and functional viewpoints; considers the biological processes that take place in the soil and their importance to soil fertility, plant growth, and environmental quality. Deals with the biochemical basis for soil processes, including microbial ecology, the carbon and nitrogen cycles, mineral transformation, and ecological interrelationships.read more

Composting of vegetable waste.
TL;DR: Experimental results showed that the final product at the end of a 4-day composting period met multiple maturity indices suggested by many researchers, and the evolution of carbon dioxide during the composting process could be modelled with a modified Gompertz equation that described the bacteria growth successfully.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incubation studies on mineralization of organic sulphur and organic nitrogen
I. Haque,D. Walmsley +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the release of sulphur and nitrogen in West Indian soils and found that nitrogen and sulphur are not mineralized at the same rate in these soils.
Journal ArticleDOI
Snow - a photobiochemical exchange platform for volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds with the atmosphere
Parisa A. Ariya,Florent Domine,Gregor Kos,Marc Amyot,Valerie Cote,Hojatollah Vali,T. Lauzier,Werner F. Kuhs,Kirsten S Techmer,Till Heinrichs,R. Mortazavi +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated how microorganisms and chemical species in snow from the Arctic and temperate regions are transferred to the atmosphere and altered by the sun's energy, and suggested that snow photo-biochemical reactions, in addition to physical-chemical reactions, should be considered in describing organic matter in air and in investigations of climate change.

Ecological assessment of hazardous waste sites: a field and laboratory reference
TL;DR: In this paper, the scientific basis for assessing adverse ecological effects at hazardous-waste sites (HWSs), and methods for evaluating the on-site and off-site ecological effects of HWSs are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of superphosphate addition on N mineralization in some Australian forest soils
TL;DR: In a field experiment, application of 200 kg P ha-1 as superphosphate to trenched plots in a Pinus radiata stand increased accumulated soil mineral-N contents by 122% and 82% above the control on two occasions as mentioned in this paper.
