TLDR
This method has been successfully applied to the isolation and purification of DNA from eight different adult insects and can be cleaved with restriction endonucleases, ligated efficiently using standard cloning vectors, and hybridized to synthetic oligonucleotides.

Expression cloning of a human Fc receptor for IgA.

TL;DR: The isolation of a clone from a myeloid cell line cDNA library is described that directs the expression of a cell surface molecule with IgA binding specificity including a putative transmembrane region with features atypical of conventional membrane-anchored proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Isolation and characterization of DNA from archaeological bone

TL;DR: DNA was extracted from human and animal bones recovered from archaeological sites and mitochondrial DNA sequences were amplified from the extracts using the polymerase chain reaction to show that significant amounts of genetic information can survive for long periods in bone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Extraction of DNA from sheep white blood cells

TL;DR: The quality of the DNA extracted from the high salt method was equivalent to that extracted by the phenol method and the DNA from both methods was digested to completion with a range of restriction enzymes and was suitable for analysis by Southern blot analysis.

Apoptosis and functional Fas antigen in rheumatoid arthritis synoviocytes.

TL;DR: The findings indicate that rheumatoid synoviocytes undergo Fas-mediated apoptosis, the first reported study to demonstrate apoptosis in RA synovial cells.

Multifactorial Resistance to Adriamycin: Relationship of DNA Repair, Glutathione Transferase Activity, Drug Efflux, and P-Glycoprotein in Cloned Cell Lines of Adriamycin-sensitive and -resistant P388 Leukemia

TL;DR: Dose-survival studies showed that ADR-resistant cells were cross-resistant to actinomycin D, daunorubicin, mitoxantrone, colchicine, and etoposide, but not to the alkylating agent melphalan; this finding provided evidence that these cells are multidrug resistant.

Detection of specific sequences among DNA fragments separated by gel electrophoresis.

TL;DR: This paper describes a method of transferring fragments of DNA from agarose gels to cellulose nitrate filters that can be hybridized to radioactive RNA and hybrids detected by radioautography or fluorography.

Identification of a neuropeptide hormone that regulates sex pheromone production in female moths.

TL;DR: A pheromone biosynthesis activating neuropeptide (PBAN) hormone was identified from the brain-subesophageal ganglion complexes of the adult corn earworm, Heliothis zea, and induced production of a normal quantity of sex pherOMone in ligated H. zea females, indicating that this or similar peptides may be responsible for the regulation of phersomone production in moths.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rapid isolation of eukaryotic DNA.

TL;DR: Intact and readily digestible DNA was prepared from a range of murine tissues and cell lines which had been dispersed in GHCl and ethanol precipitated, and then rinsed in 70% ethanol and resuspended in 10 mM Tris-HCl, 1 mM EDTA, pH 7.5.

A small-scale five-hour procedure for isolating multiple samples of CsCl-purified DNA: Application to isolations from mammalian, insect, higher plant, algal, yeast, and bacterial sources

TL;DR: A rapid and simple procedure is described for obtaining CsCl-purified DNA from multiple small samples of cells or tissue and can be scaled up with larger sample sizes and longer centrifugation times to provide bulk quantities of DNA.

Nucleotide sequence of cloned cDNA coding for honeybee prepromelittin

TL;DR: The nucleotide sequence of two clones with inserts containing genetic information for prepromelittin is presented and it is shown that it hybridizes with a single EcoRI fragment of honeybee DNA which contains about 3000 base pairs.
