TLDR
A long-lasting, but not permanent, increase in XO activity was observed in mice during bacterial or protozoal infection or with Ehrlich ascitic carcinoma, and a nonspecific defence mechanism is indicated, probably involving enhanced oxidative processes.About:

TL;DR: Results from biochemical and immunological studies suggest that xanthine oxidase is similar in the various tissues examined and may serve similar redox functions.

Xanthine oxidoreductase is central to the evolution and function of the innate immune system
TL;DR: It is suggested that numerous forms of post-translational modification of XOR could provide intrinsic molecular switches that make XOR an ideal component of various fast innate immune responses.

Role of Xanthine Oxidoreductase as an Antimicrobial Agent
TL;DR: The role of XOR in milk has long been a puzzle because it is believed to be largely concentrated in endothelial and epithelial cells, and other functions have been sought.

TL;DR: Results suggest that XO and NO play an important role in the antimicrobial mechanism against S. typhimurium in mice and that granuloma formation in the liver was poorly developed by treatment with either XO inhibitors or L-NMMA.

TL;DR: In this paper, Molybdenum Hydroxylases as Drug-Metabolizing Enzymes are described. But they do not describe the interaction between the enzymes and drugs.

TL;DR: It would seem clear from these and other studies that the granulo cyte elaborates O2- as a concomitant of the respiratory burst that occurs with phagocytosis, and a requirement for .OH in thephagocytic bactericidal event might explain the apparent requirement for both O1- and H2O2 for such activity.

A colorimetric method for the estimation of succinic dehydrogenase activity.
TL;DR: The observation that some formazans exhibit substantive properties suggested that the addition of a simple protein into the reaction mixture might keep the formazan dispersed finely enough to permit determination of the color density in aqueous solution, and nitro-BT was a much more sensitive histochemical indicator of succinic dehydrogenase activity than its analogue, BT, which lacked the nitro moiety.

Biological defense mechanisms. Evidence for the participation of superoxide in bacterial killing by xanthine oxidase.
TL;DR: Findings indicate that neither O2- nor H2O2 were able to kill S. epidermidis under the experimental conditions, but that the bactericidal agent was the product of a reaction between O 2- and H2 O2.
