TLDR
In this article, an electrochemical analogue technique has been used to measure the mass-heat transfer distribution in pipes roughened with square small ribs, and it has been found that the mass transfer distributions are less non-uniform at higher Reynolds numbers and that they are virtually independent of the Schmidt number over a wide range of Sc.

Near-bed turbulence and hydrodynamic control of diffusional mass transfer at the sea floor

TL;DR: Boudreau et al. as mentioned in this paper proposed a simple closure scheme for turbulent transport that yields mean velocity and dissolved-substance concentration profiles just above and solute fluxes across a sediment-water interface underlying uniform, steady flow.

Am Experimental Investigation of the Rib Surface-Averaged Heat Transfer Coefficient in a Rib-Roughened Square Passage

TL;DR: In this paper, the rib surface-averaged heat transfer coefficient was investigated in a square duct roughened with staggered 90° ribs and the results showed that the rib average heat transfer coefficients increased with the blockage ratio.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anomalous mass transfer of phosphate on coral reef flats

TL;DR: To estimate a maximal rate of phosphate uptake into coral reef-flat communities, analogies between fluid flow in pipes and water flow over coral reef flats are introduced and it is found that the Stanton number for P uptake into a sample reef flat is 5 x 10d5.

Design optimization of rib-roughened channel to enhance turbulent heat transfer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a numerical procedure to optimize the shape of two-dimensional channel with periodic ribs mounted on both of the walls to enhance turbulent heat transfer, and the response surface method was used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis of flow and heat transfer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental investigation on heat transfer augmentation of solar air heater using shot blasted V-corrugated absorber plate

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental investigation on surface modified solar air heater was carried out to study the rate of heat transfer and friction characteristics under the laminar flow conditions, and the main inference from the experimental result is that the Nusselt number for V-corrugated shot-blaster absorber plate is higher than the conventional absorbber plate.

Fully developed asymmetric flow in a plane channel

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of a detailed experimental examination of fully developed asymmetric flow between parallel planes, which was introduced by roughening one of the planes while the other was left smooth; the ratio of the shear stresses at the two surfaces was typically about 4:1.

Mass transfer in turbulent pipe flow measured by the electrochemical method

TL;DR: In this article, various factors affecting mass transfer measurements in electrochemical systems are discussed and ways are indicated for increasing the values of critical flow rates and Reynolds numbers up to which meaningful results can be obtained.

Turbulent convective heat transfer from rough surfaces with two-dimensional rectangular ribs

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented new experimental friction data for ten rods, each with a different artificial roughness made up of two-dimensional rectangular ribs, for each rod four tests have been performed, each in a different outer smooth tube.

Effects of Boundary Layer Turbulence Promoters on the Local Film Coefficients of ML-1 Fuel Elements

TL;DR: In this paper, a surface with integral boundary-layer turbulence promoters was determined by conducting naphthalene-to-air mass transfer tests and invoking the heat transfer analogy, and the experimental results were normalized relative to mass transfer coefficients on a smooth surface with parallel flow.
