MAPS : A set of software tools for analysis and visualization of 3D X-ray fluorescence data sets
TLDR
A software package is presented here that implements functions to provide a toolset for the analysis of 3D XRF data sets to improve the photon statistics in such a spectrum.Abstract:
X-ray fluorescence (XRF) imaging of biological cells typically involves the creation (and subsequent analysis) of 3-dimensional (3D) data sets, where at each scan position the full spectrum is recorded. This allows one to later process the data in a variety of different approaches, e.g., by spectral region of interest (ROI E ) summation with or without background subtraction, principal component analysis, or fitting. Additionally, it is possible to sum up the per pixel spectra over selected spatial ROIs so as to improve the photon statistics in such a spectrum. A software package is presented here that implements these functions to provide a toolset for the analysis of 3D XRF data sets.read more

Protein Oxidation Implicated as the Primary Determinant of Bacterial Radioresistance
Michael J. Daly,Elena K. Gaidamakova,Vera Y. Matrosova,Alexander Vasilenko,Min Zhai,Richard D. Leapman,Barry Lai,Bruce Ravel,S. W. Li,Kenneth M. Kemner,James K. Fredrickson +10 more
TL;DR: It is presented the case that protein, rather than DNA, is the principal target of the biological action of IR in sensitive bacteria, and extreme resistance in Mn-accumulating bacteria is based on protein protection.

Copper and angiogenesis: unravelling a relationship key to cancer progression.
TL;DR: Findings in this work may explain the heightened sensitivity of this cellular process to this transition metal and set a new paradigm for the kinds of regulatory roles that the spatial dynamics of cellular transition metals may play.

TL;DR: Halide homogenization coincides with long-lived charge carrier decays, spatially homogeneous carrier dynamics, and improved photovoltaic device performance, and it is found that rubidium and potassium phase-segregate in highly concentrated clusters.

Zinc Availability Regulates Exit from Meiosis in Maturing Mammalian Oocytes
TL;DR: Major changes in the zinc physiology of the mammalian oocyte as it matures and initiates embryonic development are described and implicate the zinc bolus acquired during meiotic maturation as an important part of the maternal legacy to the embryo.

TL;DR: It is proposed ATP13A2's modulation of zinc levels in MVBs can regulate the biogenesis of exosomes capable of containing α-Synuclein, the first PD-associated gene involved in exosome biogenesis and indicates a potential neuroprotective role ofExosomes in PD.
