TLDR
In this article, the authors proposed a methodology to analyze and measure the (in)congruity or gap between the two sides of the tourist destination image (supply-side projected vs. demand-side perceived) based on the difference between proportions of appearance.

Destination Image Analytics Through Traveller-Generated Content

Estela Marine-Roig
- 19 Jun 2019 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate the usefulness of online travel reviews (OTRs) to analyze the tourist image of a tourist destination by measuring different aspects (designative, appraisive and prescriptive) of tourist image.

Characterizing the location of tourist images in cities. Differences in user-generated images (Instagram), official tourist brochures and travel guides.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the extent to which there is an overlap in the territorial distribution and attractiveness of tourism images distributed via three different media: official tourist brochures, travel guides and user-generated content (Instagram).

The interplay between social media communication, brand equity and brand engagement in tourist destinations: An analysis in an emerging economy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an analysis of how and to what extent social media communication, both controlled and uncontrolled by the destination organization, has an impact on destination brand equity and destination brand engagement.

Using deep learning and visual analytics to explore hotel reviews and responses

TL;DR: The empirical results indicate that the proposed multi-feature fusion, convolutional neural network model can make different types of data complement each other, thereby outperforming the comparisons.

From desktop to destination: User-generated content platforms, co-created online experiences, destination image and satisfaction

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed user-generated platforms as a contributor to the online co-creation process and how this cocreation experience enhances a travel destination's image and, subsequently, impacts on the travel experience.

Image of the city

Abstract: What does the city's form actually mean to the people who live there? What can the city planner do to make the city's image more vivid and memorable to the city dweller? To answer these questions, Mr. Lynch, supported by studies of Los Angeles, Boston, and Jersey City, formulates a new criterion -- imageability -- and shows its potential value as a guide for the building and rebuilding of cities. The wide scope of this study leads to an original and vital method for the evaluation of city form. The architect, the planner, and certainly the city dweller will all want to read this book.

Q1. What contributions have the authors mentioned in the paper "Measuring the gap between projected and perceived destination images of catalonia using compositional analysis" ?

The aim of this paper is to propose a methodology to analyse and measure the ( in ) congruity or gap between the two sides of the TDI ( supply-side projected vs. demand-side perceived ) based on the difference between proportions of appearance. The measurement of the gap between these TDI components shows that organic images ( perceived ) are significantly different from autonomous and induced images ( projected ), and that, the last two resemble one another much more. Measuring the gap between projected and perceived destination images of Catalonia using compositional analysis Estela Marine-Roig, PhD Corresponding author estela.

Future studies could also include the least frequent words or select words after the keyword count analysis, and observe which of the least frequent words contribute the most to differentiate information sources. Also, future studies could draw from what matters and is important, as well as is much different. In other words, future studies could identify those cases which are equally represented and those which are not equally treated in the three information sources. In this respect, future works should compare results by different countries or destinations.

Trending Questions (1)
How do projected and perceived images compare in TDI?

The study found that there are significant differences between the projected and perceived images of Catalonia, with the projected images being more similar to each other than to the perceived images.
