TLDR
Saturated, monoenoic and dienoic wax esters, C26−C40, have been synthesized from even-numbered fatty alcohols and acids, and those esters which have an acid moiety two carbon atoms shorter than the alcohol moiety have melting points higher than interpolation would predict.Abstract:
Saturated, monoenoic and dienoic wax esters, C26−C40, have been synthesized from even-numbered fatty alcohols and acids. In homologous series of saturated esters, the increments of melting points follow a regular trend except for those esters which have an acid moiety two carbon atoms shorter than the alcohol moiety. These wax esters have melting points higher than interpolation would predict. Monoenoic wax esters with the double bond in the alcohol chain have melting points about 10 C higher than their isomers with the double bond in the acid chain.read more

A Comprehensive Evaluation of the Melting Points of Fatty Acids and Esters Determined by Differential Scanning Calorimetry
Gerhard Knothe,Robert O. Dunn +1 more
TL;DR: The melting point of a pure fatty acid or ester as determined by differential scanning calorimetry can vary up to approximately 1 °C compared to data in prior literature as mentioned in this paper, which plays a significant role in determining possible applications.

Lipid melting and cuticular permeability: new insights into an old problem.
TL;DR: Recent work supports the standard model, in which lipid melting results in increased cuticular permeability, and Surface lipids differ from one region to another, and biophysical studies of model mixtures suggest the occurrence of phase separation between melted and solid lipid fractions.

Beeswax: Structure of the esters and their component hydroxy acids and diols
TL;DR: In this article, the compositions of the acids, hydroxy acids, alcohols, and diols from each ester fraction have been determined by gas liquid chromatography, and the major hydroxy acid (70%) obtained on hydrolysis was 15-hydroxyhexadecanoic acid.
