Mesozoic and Cenozoic tectonics of the northern edge of the Tibetan plateau: fission-track constraints

TLDR
Fission track analysis on zircons and apatites yields new information about the timing of deformation of the northern Tibetan plateau as mentioned in this paper, indicating a general late Triassic-early Jurassic cooling probably driven by the collision between the Qiantang and Kunlun blocks.

Geological records of the Lhasa-Qiangtang and Indo-Asian collisions in the Nima area of central Tibet

TL;DR: A geological and geochronologic investigation of the Nima area along the Jurassic-Early Cretaceous Bangong suture of central Tibet provides well-dated records of contractional deformation and sedimentation during mid-Cretaceous and mid-Tertiary time as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cenozoic tectonic evolution of Asia: A preliminary synthesis

TL;DR: In the Himalayan-Tibetan orogen and Turkey-Iranian-Caucasus orogen as mentioned in this paper, the early stages of the orogenic deformation were characterized by shortening in the early stage followed by strike-slip faulting and extension in the late stage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cenozoic tectonic evolution of the Qaidam basin and its surrounding regions (Part 3): Structural geology, sedimentation, and regional tectonic reconstruction

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed regional seismic-reflection profiles across the Qaidam basin and a series of thickness distribution patterns of Cenozoic strata at different time slices.

Outward-growth of the Tibetan Plateau during the Cenozoic: A review ☆

TL;DR: The surface uplift history of the Tibetan Plateau (TP) offers a key testing ground for evaluating models of collisional tectonics and holds important implications for processes ranging from global cooling to the onset of the Asian monsoon as mentioned in this paper.

High-resolution magnetostratigraphy of the Neogene Huaitoutala section in the eastern Qaidam Basin on the NE Tibetan Plateau, Qinghai Province, China and its implication on tectonic uplift of the NE Tibetan Plateau

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed paleomagnetic study of the well exposed 4570m Huaitoutala section along the Keluke anticline in the northeastern Qaidam Basin, where three distinct faunas were recovered and identified from the middle Miocene through Pliocene, was performed.

The zeta age calibration of fission-track dating

TL;DR: In this article, an alternative zeta (ζ) calibration approach is described, which circumvents absolute φ and λf evaluation: each dosimeter glass is calibrated repeatedly against zircon age standards from the Fish Canyon and Bishop tuffs, the Tardree rhyolite and Southern African kimberlites, to obtain empirical calibration factors ζ.

Surface Deformation and Lower Crustal Flow in Eastern Tibet

TL;DR: This model predicts east-west extension on the high plateau without convective removal of Tibetan lithosphere and without eastward movement of the crust east of the plateau.

On the mechanics of the collision between India and Asia

TL;DR: The reproducible pattern of faulting obtained from plane-strain indentation experiments on unilaterally confined blocks of plasticine suggests that this extrusion process has occurred during most of the collision history as discussed by the authors.

India–Eurasia collision chronology has implications for crustal shortening and driving mechanism of plates

TL;DR: The motion of the Indian plate is determined in an absolute frame of reference and compared with the position of the southern margin of Eurasia deduced from palaeomagnetic data in Tibet as discussed by the authors.
