Data will ameliorate the overall reliability of MMSE as a screening test for cognitive impairment in elderly people and reduce the influence of demographic variables on the MMSE raw scores.Abstract:
The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), a brief test to assess cognitive status, is heavily influenced by age and education. It was administered to 1019 elderly subjects (aged 65-89 years) living in three different Italian cities. A statistical non-linear regression model was built up in order to obtain adjustment coefficients to reduce the influence of demographic variables on the MMSE raw scores. Age and educational level were significantly and independently associated with the MMSE score. Results of a multiple linear regression with transformation of age and education provided adjustment coefficients of the MMSE raw scores. Data from this study will ameliorate the overall reliability of MMSE as a screening test for cognitive impairment in elderly people.read more

TL;DR: At variance with AD, detectable in vivo atrophy of the hippocampus might not be an early event in FTD, but differential patterns of atrophy might help in the diagnostic process of the degenerative dementias.

TL;DR: A simplified, scored form of the cognitive mental status examination, the “Mini-Mental State” (MMS) which includes eleven questions, requires only 5-10 min to administer, and is therefore practical to use serially and routinely.
A practical method for grading the cognitive state of patients for the clinician
TL;DR: The Mini-Mental State (MMS) as mentioned in this paper is a simplified version of the standard WAIS with eleven questions and requires only 5-10 min to administer, and is therefore practical to use serially and routinely.

Population-based norms for the mini-mental state examination by age and educational level
TL;DR: Results presented should prove to be useful to clinicians who wish to compare an individual patient's MMSE scores with a population reference group and to researchers making plans for new studies in which cognitive status is a variable of interest.

Age‐specific norms for the Mini‐Mental State Exam
TL;DR: When screening for progressive decline in cognitive performance, the use of age-specific norms may provide greater sensitivity than the present recommended cutoff score of less than 24.
