TLDR
In this article, the effects of rubber content and strain rate on the elastic and plastic deformation behavior of core-shell rubber-modified epoxies were investigated and the Young's modulus and the yield stress were found to be very sensitive to the volume fraction of rubber particles.

Effect of core–shell rubber (CSR) nano-particles on mechanical properties and fracture toughness of an epoxy polymer

TL;DR: In this paper, a DGEBA epoxy resin cured using dicyandiamide hardener, was modified by using two types of CSR nano-particles over a range of volume fractions from 0.% to 38.%.
Journal ArticleDOI

An experimental investigation of the large-strain tensile behavior of neat and rubber-toughened polycarbonate

TL;DR: In this paper, the large-strain tensile behavior of polycarbonate and polycarbonates filled with several volume fractions (f ) of rubber particles was studied via an optical technique.

Micromechanics and Structural Response of Functionally Graded, Particulate-Matrix, Fiber-Reinforced Composites

TL;DR: Optimal tailoring of a plate is explored, and functional grading is shown to improve the performance of the structures considered, suggesting superior blast resistance of the panel achieved at the expense of only a small increase in weight.
Journal ArticleDOI

Finite element analysis of elastic property bounds of a composite with randomly distributed particles

TL;DR: In this paper, the elastic properties of an E-glass particle reinforced BISGMA/TEGDMA composite were predicted by a random unit cell model and two means of tensile loading were used: iso-displacement loading and iso-stress loading.
Journal ArticleDOI

Toughening of dicyandiamide-cured DGEBA-based epoxy resin using MBS core-shell rubber particles

TL;DR: In this paper, core-shell rubber particles, methyl methacrylate-butadiene styrene, were added to the epoxy resin and their effect on the fracture, mechanical-physical, and thermal properties of the resins were investigated using a scanning electron microscope.

Average stress in matrix and average elastic energy of materials with misfitting inclusions

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of calculating the average internal stress in the matrix of a material containing inclusions with transformation strain is presented. But the authors do not consider the effects of the interaction among the inclusions and of the presence of the free boundary.

Mechanical properties of solid polymers

I. M. Ward
TL;DR: A concise, self-contained introduction to solid polymers, the mechanics of their behavior and molecular and structural interpretations can be found in this article, which provides extended coverage of recent developments in rubber elasticity, relaxation transitions, non-linear viscoelastic behavior, anisotropic mechanical behavior, yield behavior of polymers and other fields.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deformation and fracture behaviour of a rubber-toughened epoxy: 1. Microstructure and fracture studies

TL;DR: In this article, the microstructure and fracture behavior of an unmodified and a rubber-modified epoxy have been studied and the mechanisms for this increased toughness have been considered and a mechanism that accounts for all the observed characteristics has been proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Failure mechanisms in toughened epoxy resins—A review

TL;DR: A critical review of the existing theories that have been proposed for the various toughening mechanisms related to modified epoxy resins can be found in this article, where the failure mechanisms leading to the improvement in toughness are discussed.
