TLDR
The use of the thiobarbituric acid (TBA) assay for TBARS of lipid oxidation in extracts of plant materials was examined in this article, where a modified procedure was developed using standard curves for both malondialdehyde (MDA) and sucrose.Abstract:
Use of the thiobarbituric acid (TBA) assay for thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) of lipid oxidation in extracts of plant materials was examined. Sucrose, fructose, glucose, lactose, citrus pectin, and bovine serum albumin (BSA) interfered with the TBA assay reaction. To correct for the interference caused by sugars (the major interference), a modified procedure was developed using standard curves for both malondialdehyde (MDA) and sucrose. Molar absorbance (MA) of adducts from TBA-MDA and TBA-sucrose reactions increased when the acidity in the reaction mixture increased and the time of heating and the temperature of heating for the reaction increasedread more

Improving the thiobarbituric acid-reactive-substances assay for estimating lipid peroxidation in plant tissues containing anthocyanin and other interfering compounds
TL;DR: In this paper, a modified version of the TBARS method was proposed for assessing the presence of malondialdehyde (MDA) and other non-MDA compounds absorbing at 532 nm.

Methods for testing antioxidant activity
TL;DR: The measurement of antioxidant activities, especially of antioxidants that are mixtures, multifunctional or are acting in complex multiphase systems, cannot be evaluated satisfactorily by a simple antioxidant test without due regard to the many variables influencing the results.

Effects of heat acclimation pretreatment on changes of membrane lipid peroxidation, antioxidant metabolites, and ultrastructure of chloroplasts in two cool-season turfgrass species under heat stress
TL;DR: Investigation in two cool-season turfgrass species showed it was insufficient to protect the chloroplast from damage with increase in heat stress level, even if with high AsA and GSH contents to remove reactive oxygen species (ROS).

High-throughput determination of malondialdehyde in plant tissues.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a partitioning step into n- butanol during sample preparation is essential and that gradient HPLC analysis is necessary to prevent sample carryover between injections, and that the starting composition of the mobile phase must be sufficiently hydrophobic to allow direct injection of the n-butanol extracts without peak splitting, tailing, and other artifacts.

Exogenous nitric oxide improves seed germination in wheat against mitochondrial oxidative damage induced by high salinity
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of exogenous nitric oxide (NO) on starch degradation, oxidation in mitochondria and K + /Na + accumulation during seed germination of wheat were investigated under a high salinity level.
