Journal ArticleDOI
Connected Triangles Exhibiting Negative Poisson's Ratios and Negative Thermal Expansion
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show how existing knowledge on systems exhibiting negative Poisson's ratios and negative thermal expansion can be combined to produce a novel and easily constructible system which can exhibit both negative properties simultaneously.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elastic properties of degenerate f.c.c. crystal of polydisperse soft dimers at zero temperature
TL;DR: It is shown that, at the fixed number density of the dimers, increasing polydispersity causes, typically, an increase in pressure, elastic constants and Poisson's ratio; the latter is positive in most directions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Counterintuitive modulus from semi-auxetic laminates
TL;DR: In this paper, the conditions by which the in-plane Young's modulus of a semi-auxetic laminate always exceeds the rule of mixtures are established. And an example is demonstrated whereby the maximum point of the inplane modulus occurs where the volume fraction of the stiffer phase is lower than that of the more compliant phase.

Theory of elasticity
TL;DR: The theory of the slipline field is used in this article to solve the problem of stable and non-stressed problems in plane strains in a plane-strain scenario.

Cellular Solids: Structure and Properties
Lorna J. Gibson,Michael F. Ashby +1 more
TL;DR: The linear elasticity of anisotropic cellular solids is studied in this article. But the authors focus on the design of sandwich panels with foam cores and do not consider the properties of the materials.

Foam structures with a negative poisson's ratio
TL;DR: A novel foam structure is presented, which exhibits a negative Poisson's ratio, and such a material expands laterally when stretched, in contrast to ordinary materials.
