Multivariate statistical evaluation of dissolved trace elements and a water quality assessment in the middle reaches of Huaihe River, Anhui, China

TLDR
The results of the water quality index (WQI) indicate that water in the Huaihe River is heavily polluted by trace elements, so approximately 96% of the river water is unsuitable for drinking and a health risk assessment suggests that Co, Cd and Pb in the river could cause non-carcinogenic harm to human health.

Distribution and health-ecological risk assessment of heavy metals: an endemic disease case study in southwestern China.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper employed principal component analysis (PCA), correlation analysis (CA), and spatial distribution to identify the source and distribution characteristics of heavy metal (HM) in soil.

Effect of Plant Species and Nutrient Loading Rates in Treatment Wetlands for Polluted River Water Under a Subtropical Climate

TL;DR: The performance of 14 large pilot-scale horizontal flow wetlands designed to treat polluted river water was tested in a 3-year study at the Chenshan Botanical Garden in Shanghai, China as mentioned in this paper.

Seasonal and spatial variations of atmospheric depositions-bound elements over Tehran megacity, Iran: Pollution levels, PMF-based source apportionment and risks assessment

TL;DR: In this paper , the influence of anthropogenic activities on the level of elements pollution was determined using the Geo-accumulation index (Igeo), Enrichment factor (EF), and Pollution index (PI), which revealed the highest Igeo values for Cd at the “extremely contaminated” level due to great influence from Cd emission sources, especially in spring.

Multi-media compartments for assessing ecological and health risks from concurrent exposure to multiple contaminants on Bhola Island, Bangladesh

TL;DR: In this paper , a set of coupled multi-media compartments (i.e., sediment, soil, water and vegetable) was used to assess ecological and health risks from the ingestion of 11 PTEs (Pb, Cd, Cr, As, Hg, Cu, Zn, Ni, Co, Fe, and Mn) and their transportation routes in the water-soil-plant system from the coastal Bhola Island, Bangladesh.

Analysis of spatio-temporal variations of river water quality and construction of a novel cost-effective assessment model: a case study in Hong Kong

TL;DR: This study constructed a novel cost-effective assessment model of river water quality using the 1-year monitoring data collected from 23 sampling stations in the water control zone of Tolo Harbour and Channel in Hong Kong to establish six cost- effective water quality assessment models.

Multivariate statistical techniques for the evaluation of spatial and temporal variations in water quality of Gomti River (India)—a case study

TL;DR: This study presents necessity and usefulness of multivariate statistical techniques for evaluation and interpretation of large complex data sets with a view to get better information about the water quality and design of monitoring network for effective management of water resources.

Application of factor analysis in the assessment of groundwater quality in a blackfoot disease area in Taiwan

TL;DR: The over-extraction of groundwater is the major cause of groundwater salinization and arsenic pollution in the coastal area of Yun-Lin, Taiwan and this model explains over 77.8% of the total groundwater quality variation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of seasonal and polluting effects on the quality of river water by exploratory data analysis

TL;DR: In this article, an ANOVA of the rotated principal components has demonstrated that mineral contents are seasonal and climate dependent, thus pointing to a natural origin for this polluting form and pollution by organic matter and nutrients originates from anthropogenic sources, mainly as municipal wastewater.

Assessment of the surface water quality in Northern Greece.

TL;DR: The necessity and usefulness of multivariate statistical assessment of large and complex databases in order to get better information about the quality of surface water, the design of sampling and analytical protocols and the effective pollution control/management of the surface waters is presented.

Ecological risk assessment of heavy metals in sediment and human health risk assessment of heavy metals in fishes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin

TL;DR: Investigation of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China found that heavy metals may be mainly derived from metal processing, electroplating industries, industrial wastewater, and domestic sewage, and Hg may also originate from coal combustion.
