Nitrate-induced photooxidation of trace organic chemicals in water.
TLDR
The oxidation kinetics of butyl chloride, nitrobenzene, anisole, and methylmercury in the presence of hydroxyl radical (OH) scavengers were used to determine the rate and quantum efficiency for production of OH from irradiated nitrate ions in water.Abstract:
The oxidation kinetics of butyl chloride, nitrobenzene, anisole, and methylmercury in the presence of hydroxyl radical (OH) scavengers were used to determine the rate and quantum efficiency for production of OH from irradiated nitrate ions in water. The experiments were conducted under steady-state irradiations with monochromatic radiation (313 nm) and with sunlight. The mean quantum efficiency for OH production at 313 nm rises from 0.013 +/- 0.002 at 20 /sup 0/C to 0.017 +/- 0.003 at 30 /sup 0/C in the pH range 6.2-8.2. Results of this study are used to estimate nitrate-induced photooxidation rates of trace organic chemicals under a variety of environmental conditions. 27 references, 6 figures, 2 tables.read more

Quantum Yields of Nitrite (NO2–) from the Photolysis of Nitrate (NO3–) in Ice at 313 nm
TL;DR: Compared to solution results, it is found that nitrite quantum yields in ice are more sensitive to pH and that •OH scavengers are less effective, although 2-propanol appears to work well.

Determination of photochemically-generated reactive oxygen species in natural water.
TL;DR: The photodegradation of BPA promoted by ROS, which were produced on the excitation of ubiquitous constituents in natural water under simulated solar radiation was investigated and it was found that *OH was photochemically produced in the presence of nitrate ions, humic substances and Fe(III)-oxalate complexes.

TL;DR: The finding that dichloroacetamide safeners can undergo photolysis in environmental systems over relevant time scales demonstrates the importance of evaluating the fate of this class of "inert" agrochemicals.

Effect of Organic Coatings on Gas-Phase Nitrogen Dioxide Production from Aqueous Nitrate Photolysis
TL;DR: The influence of stearic acid, octanol, and octanoic acid monolayer coatings on the release of NO2 into the gas phase following aqueous NO3 photolysis was studied using incoherent broadband cavityenhanced absorption spectroscopy (IBBC-EAS) as discussed by the authors.
