The oxidation kinetics of butyl chloride, nitrobenzene, anisole, and methylmercury in the presence of hydroxyl radical (OH) scavengers were used to determine the rate and quantum efficiency for production of OH from irradiated nitrate ions in water.
Abstract
The oxidation kinetics of butyl chloride, nitrobenzene, anisole, and methylmercury in the presence of hydroxyl radical (OH) scavengers were used to determine the rate and quantum efficiency for production of OH from irradiated nitrate ions in water. The experiments were conducted under steady-state irradiations with monochromatic radiation (313 nm) and with sunlight. The mean quantum efficiency for OH production at 313 nm rises from 0.013 +/- 0.002 at 20 /sup 0/C to 0.017 +/- 0.003 at 30 /sup 0/C in the pH range 6.2-8.2. Results of this study are used to estimate nitrate-induced photooxidation rates of trace organic chemicals under a variety of environmental conditions. 27 references, 6 figures, 2 tables.

Formation of nitrophenols upon UV irradiation of phenol and nitrate in aqueous solutions and in TiO2 aqueous suspensions.

TL;DR: The formation of nitrophenols was studied as a consequence of ultra violet (UV) irradiation of aqueous solutions of phenol and nitrate in the range of pH 1-12 and a reaction mechanism is proposed, based on the experimental results.

Ferrioxalate complexes as strategy to drive a photo-FENTON reaction at mild pH conditions: A case study on levofloxacin oxidation

TL;DR: In this paper, the use of ferrioxalate photoactive complexes as a strategy to drive a photo-Fenton reaction at mild pH conditions, applied to the oxidation of antibiotic levofloxacin (LEV) in pure water and spiked in urban wastewater after secondary treatment, was evaluated at different pH values (30 to 60).

Nitrate Ion Photolysis in Thin Water Films in the Presence of Bromide Ions

TL;DR: Enhanced photochemistry in the presence of halide ions may be important for oxides of nitrogen production in field studies such as in polar snowpacks where the use of quantum yields from laboratory studies in the absence of halides would lead to a significant underestimate of the photolysis rates of nitrate ions.
