Noise pollution mapping approach and accuracy on landscape scales

TLDR
15 models are compared, using different grid sizes, to assess the accuracy of the noise mapping of the road traffic noise at a landscape scale, with respect to noise and landscape indicators in a Manzanares High River Basin Regional Park in Spain.

Transportation planning and quiet natural areas preservation: Aircraft overflights noise assessment in a National Park

TL;DR: In this article, the authors deal with aircraft noise impact on natural environments from a multiple innovative perspective and combine: noise modeling, field measurements, soundscape audibility, human perception and spatial pattern tools for assessing the chronic growing outdoor noise pollution of ecosystems at landscape scale.

Noise pollution in national parks: Soundscape and economic valuation

TL;DR: In this paper, the main noise sources were identified and the noise-pollution levels were assessed along a pathway that is highly frequented by hikers in a natural park in the mountains of central Spain.

Green and calm: Modeling the relationships between noise pollution propagation and spatial patterns of urban structures and green covers

TL;DR: In this article, the authors adopted a spatio-statistical approach to quantify and model associations between noise pollution levels and landscape metrics of land categories (built-up structures and urban green covers).

Validation of large scale noise exposure modelling by long-term measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, a large scale nationwide assessment of road, railway, and aircraft noise exposure was conducted for the year 2011, where 180 sleeping and/or living room windows were equipped with sound level meters for one week and the resulting dataset was used to validate noise exposure modelling within SiRENE.

Effects of changing scale on landscape pattern analysis: scaling relations

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored if there are any scaling relations for landscape pattern when it is measured over a range of scales (grain size and extent) and found that the responses of landscape metrics to changing scale fell into two categories when computed at the class level (i.e., for individual land cover types): simple scaling functions and unpredictable behavior).

The costs of chronic noise exposure for terrestrial organisms

TL;DR: A broad range of findings that indicate the potential severity of this threat to diverse taxa, and recent studies that document substantial changes in foraging and anti-predator behavior, reproductive success, density and community structure in response to noise are reviewed.
