Modification of the Vertical Axis with Variations in the Number of Blades of the Savonius Wind Turbine

TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of Savonius wind turbines with 2 and 3 blades variables in each turbine blade shape was evaluated on a laboratory scale with a wind source using a fan that is directly opposite the turbine.

Numerical Simulation for the Starting Characteristics of a Wind Turbine

TL;DR: In this paper, the starting characteristics of a wind turbine were analyzed and the force required to stop the turbine was modeled based on friction in relation to the bearing. And the simulation results tend to qualitatively agree with the experimental results for steadily rotating wind turbines in terms of two aspects: (1) the optimal shape has an 20% overlap of the turbine radius, and (2) the larger the gap, the lower the efficiency.

Design and Performance Prediction of Low Cost Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

TL;DR: In this paper, a low cost vertical axis wind turbine designed for low-rated wind regime has the hybrid of simple Savonius and helical Savonians and various experimental parameters are measured to check the suitability of the vertical-axis wind turbine in the low rated wind speed regions.

On the performance analysis of Savonius rotor with twisted blades

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-bladed rotor system has been tested in a low speed wind tunnel, and its performance has been compared with conventional semicircular blades (with twist angle of 0°) on the basis of starting characteristics, static torque and rotational speed.

A double-step Savonius rotor for local production of electricity: a design study

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a study, carried out with the help of the French Agency of Innovation (ANVAR), which deals with the conception of a small Savonius rotor (i.e. of low power) for local production of electricity.

On the torque mechanism of Savonius rotors

TL;DR: In this article, the aerodynamic performance and flow fields of Savonius rotors at various overlap ratios have been investigated by measuring the pressure distributions on the blades and by visualizing the flow fields in and around the rotors with and without rotation.

Wind tunnel tests on a savonius rotor

TL;DR: In this paper, a wind tunnel test was made on a number of Savonius rotor configurations in wind speeds of 6-9 m/s with variable variables including blade aspect ratio, blade overlap and gap and the effects of adding end extensions, end plates and shielding.
