Abstract
During 2010, an outbreak of West Nile virus infection occurred in Greece. A total of 197 patients with neuroinvasive disease were reported, of whom 33 (17%) died. TL;DR: This study confirms the circulation of WNV in northern Serbia and no striking regional differences in seroprevalences were identified suggesting WNV circulation also in other parts of Serbia.

Breaking the chain of zoonoses through biosecurity in livestock.

TL;DR: In an evolving global environment there is a need for vaccines that accommodate for lower socioeconomic and rapidly emerging zoonotics, and approaches that restrict infectious agents in livestock, not only protects their economic value but should reduce the potential for spill over infections in humans.

The Long-Term Outcomes of Human West Nile Virus Infection

TL;DR: Although further assessment is needed, the long-term neurological and functional sequelae of WNV infection are likely to represent a considerable source of morbidity in patients long after their recovery from acute illness.

Ongoing outbreak of West Nile virus infections in humans in Greece, July-August 2010.

TL;DR: The reoccurrence of human cases in two consecutive years and the spread of the virus in new areas suggest that West Nile virus is established in Greece, and its transmission may continue to occur in the future.

Genetic characterization of West Nile virus lineage 2, Greece, 2010.

TL;DR: The West Nile virus detected in Culex pipiens mosquitoes during a severe outbreak of human West Nile disease in Greece 2010 showed closest genetic relationship to the lineage 2 strain that emerged in Hungary in 2004.
