Early recognition and prevention of chronic kidney disease.

TL;DR: Novel clinical methods to better identify patients at risk of progression to later stages of chronic kidney disease, including kidney failure, are needed to target management to high-risk subgroups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Outcomes of early versus late nephrology referral in chronic kidney disease: a systematic review.

TL;DR: Results show reduced mortality and hospitalization, better uptake of peritoneal dialysis, and earlier placement of arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis with early nephrology referral.
Journal ArticleDOI

Early referral to specialist nephrology services for preventing the progression to end-stage kidney disease.

TL;DR: Evaluated the benefits and harms of early versus late referral to specialist nephrology services in CKD patients who are progressing to ESKD and RRT, which showed patients referred early were more likely than late referrals to initiate RRT with peritoneal dialysis.

Outpatient Nephrology Referral Rates after Acute Kidney Injury

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a minority of at-risk survivors are referred for nephrology care after an episode of AKI, and determining how to best identify survivors ofAKI who are at highest risk for complications and progression of CKD could facilitate early nephrolog-based interventions.

KHA‐CARI Guideline: Early chronic kidney disease: Detection, prevention and management

TL;DR: Early detection of CKD may have value, although criteria for a screening programme to detect the disease must be met to balance the aggregate benefits with the risks and costs of the screening tests.

K/DOQI clinical practice guidelines for chronic kidney disease: Evaluation, classification, and stratification

TL;DR: In the early 1990s, the National Kidney Foundation (K/DOQI) developed a set of clinical practice guidelines to define chronic kidney disease and to classify stages in the progression of kidney disease.

National kidney foundation practice guidelines for chronic kidney disease: evaluation, classification, and stratification

Meta-analysis: Principles and procedures

TL;DR: These principles are discussed, along with the practical steps in performing meta-analysis, which allow a more objective appraisal of the evidence than traditional narrative reviews, provide a more precise estimate of a treatment effect, and may explain heterogeneity between the results of individual studies.
