Pathogenesis of Alcohol-Induced Chronic Pancreatitis: Facts, Perceptions, and Misperceptions

TL;DR: The pathogenesis of chronic pancreatitis secondary to chronic alcoholism is not fully understood as mentioned in this paper, and a major obstacle in the understanding of the pathogenesis is the inability to study early lesions of the pancreas and the sequential changes.

Analysis of pure pancreatic juice in patients with chronic alcoholism.

TL;DR: It was suggested that exocrine dysfunction in chronic alcoholics is reversible in an early stage and that sequence of events with advancement of the stage is hypersecretion, hyperconcentration of protein, normalization of water secretion with a decreases in lipase secretion and maximal bicarbonate concentration, a decrease in amylase and chymotrypsinogen output, and finally a decreasing in flow rate.

Intraluminal fat digestion in the chronic alcoholic

TL;DR: In the chronic alcoholic insufficient production of pancreatic lipase seems to be responsible for the reversible abnormality in the intraluminal digestion of fat.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rapid communication: abnormal suppression of plasma cortisol during the intravenous infusion of dexamethasone to alcoholic patients

TL;DR: Four of the alcoholics failed to show normal suppression of plasma cortisol levels, thus confirming that in some alcoholics there is a disturbance of pituitary‐adrenal function similar to that found in Cushing's disease.
