Abstract
Starts with a brief review of the history and the application areas considered in the literature. The author then proceeds with introductory modeling examples, behavioral and structural properties, three methods of analysis, subclasses of Petri nets and their analysis. In particular, one section is devoted to marked graphs, the concurrent system model most amenable to analysis. Introductory discussions on stochastic nets with their application to performance modeling, and on high-level nets with their application to logic programming, are provided. Also included are recent results on reachability criteria. Suggestions are provided for further reading on many subject areas of Petri nets. >

The application of Petri-nets to workflow management

TL;DR: This paper introduces workflow management as an application domain for Petri nets, presents state-of-the-art results with respect to the verification of workflows, and highlights some Petri-net-based workflow tools.

Workflow mining: discovering process models from event logs

TL;DR: A new algorithm is presented to extract a process model from a so-called "workflow log" containing information about the workflow process as it is actually being executed and represent it in terms of a Petri net.

A predicate-transition net model for parallel interpretation of logic programs

TL;DR: The proposed net model offers a syntactical variant of Horn clause logic and has two distinctions from other existing schemes for the logic programs: representation formalism and the deduction method.

Modeling and analysis of communication and cooperation protocols using petri net based models

TL;DR: The most important classes of nets are presented, their analysis possibilities are given and it is shown how they can be used to model and analyze communication and cooperation protocols.

Implementation of a Petri net controller for a machining workstation

TL;DR: An application-independent manufacturing workstation controller is described for a general purpose computer which uses Petri nets to describe the sequencing informaiton and several additions are made to Petrinets to allow the modeling of hierarchical systems, conflict decisions, and system actions.

Petri Nets Theory for the Correctness of Protocols

TL;DR: In this paper, a model of the connection and disconnection phases is developed, and properties of correctness are demonstrated, using Petri net theory results, namely, reductions and linear invariants techniques.

A unified approach for studying the properties of transition systems

TL;DR: The main conclusion is that the reachability types and therefore the system properties, can be characterized by simple relations involving the set of the possible initial states and fixed points of certain continuous predicate trasformers depending on theSet of target states.
